Tempest loud turn on sound. (DISCUSSION)
« on: August 09, 2018, 08:47:14 AM »
I just wanted to further discuss a thread that I’m going to assume was inadvertently locked. The original thread:

https://forum.davesmithinstruments.com/index.php/topic,2190.0.html

This was one of the very first things I noticed about the Tempest. That pop sound at start up is really intense.

I’ve noticed that when I use the Tempest directly with headphones there seems to be no way to avoid sending a voltage spike to them. If you have them plugged in when you turn it on, they pop just like an external amp would using the outputs. If you plug in the headphones after the Tempest is powered up, they pop as the cable is inserted. Does anyone have a work around for this that I am unaware of? Also, what are the long term effects of continually exposing my headphones to this unavoidable voltage spike?

Yes, I get this too.  There is definitely some standing voltage after startup that discharges when headphones are plugged in.

Perhaps inserting a dummy cable first might work?

Cheers!
