John Carpenter Prophet 6 patches coming soon.
« on: June 08, 2018, 04:36:04 PM »
I'm currently programming several John Carpenter/Alan Howarth inspired patches on the DSI Sequential Prophet-6. These will be available for purchase in the new few weeks.

I'm focusing more on the Prophet-5/Prophet 10 era of Carpenter/Howarth's music.

For Escape From New York, they relied heavily on both the Prophet-5 and the ARP Quadra (as well as two ARP Avatars being sequenced). I focused more on the Prophet-5 type sounds here. As you can see they were subtle and more metallic sounding than what one might normally expect out of a Prophet-5 soundtrack.

Fun Fact: When Howarth asked Carpenter what he envisioned for the music, Carpenter came to the studio with two records: The Police and Tangerine Dream. Listening now...you can certainly hear the influences of both those groups through the soundtrack.

1:Main Title/Snake's Piano
2. Snake's Flight/Engulfed Cathedral
3. Snake Wanders/Incidental Strings
4.New York's Hell
5. The Crazies Come Out To Play
6. Incidental Organ
7. Police Action
8. The President's Sequence
9. 69th Street Bridge Chase
10. Over The Wall/Lead

Coming soon:
Halloween II

Very fun. I've always enjoyed that soundtrack and would be happy to buy them if you do a set for the Rev2.

Vol 2
More Of The Night He Came Home

I'm continuing to focus on Carpenter and Howarth's Prophet driven scores and Halloween ii is no exception. There are lots of layers happening on this soundtrack and thus some of these patches might sound like they are "Missing something".

For this score, I personally feel that Carpenter and Howarth took John's original 70s score (done entirely on a Piano and Moog Modular System)and surpassed it. This score (and film) has a distinctly more gothic feel to it. The use of synthesized pipe organs sounds as well as more metallic sounding noise splashes really help give a strange sort of mixture of classic horror soundtrack as well as a semi industrial feel.

Instruments used on the original

Prophet 10
Prophet 5
ARP Avatar (2)
ARP Quadra
ARP Sequencer
Roland CSQ-600/Sequencer
Sequential Circuits 700 Programmer
Linn LM-1 Drum Computer

Patches include:
1: Intro/You Don't Know What Death Is
2: Main Title/Michael's Pipe Organ
3: Laurie's Theme
4: Still He Kills/Murder Stingers
5: Haddonfield Hospital Drone/The Shape Enters Laurie's Room
6: Mrs Alves
7: Michael and Laurie
8: The Shape Stalks Again
9: In The Operating Room/Tears Of Blood
10: Bring Me A Dream

VOL 3:

PUT ON YOUR MASKS KIDDIES!!!!!!! The John Carpenter Prophet 6 Patches continue....

Halloween III: Season Of The Witch is not only one of my favorite films (in fact I even enjoy it more than any of the Michael Myers films) but it's also easily my second favorite Carpenter soundtrack (first one being The Fog).

For this score Howarth ditched the ARP Quadra and used the following set up.

Prophet-10 w Poly Sequencer
Prophet-5 w Poly Sequencer
ARP Avatar (2)
ARP Sequencer
Sequential Circuits Programmer Mdl.700
Linn LM-1 Drum Computer

A lot of the sounds in this patch list are played through the soundtrack's entirety. For me this is where Carpenter and Howarth's sound is most "Synth like" with filter sweeps, synth pads and synth bass. To my ears this score perfectly embodies the holiday of Halloween and takes the innocents of jack-o-lanterns, skeletons, witches and trick or treating and delivers a slow brooding evil that lurks beneath the masks.

1. It's Almost Time Kiddies....
2. Horrorathon At 9
3. Follow The Shamrock
4. Skeleton
5. Jack-O-Lantern
6. Witch
7. Cochran's Pad
8. Robot's Timpani (Reoccurring Timpani)
9. Watch The Magic Pumpkin (Reoccurring Stinger)
10. STOP IT!!! STOP IT!!! STOP IT!!!!

These patches will be ready for purchase in the next few weeks.
Just one more volume to go...
