USB+midi thru

hi folks,
I am on last beta os, but to my memory, i could never use usb and midi thru at the same time, as specified in the manual
( ... MIDI Out and USB can be used at the same time and transmit the same data.) for reference my model number is 520.
is any of you having the same issue?

I'm trying to do the same thing.  I'd like to send notes to the tetra in multimode through channels 1-4 and "through" notes on channel 5 to a korg volca beats.  No luck so far.  I have global setting MIDI out select set to thru.
