Analog Bass Mono Synth makes sense?

Analog Bass Mono Synth makes sense?
« on: April 03, 2018, 04:03:22 AM »
Hi!

I understand that the Prophet Rev 2 is not designed to be a Bass Synth, so should I consider a different analog bass Mono synth for that exclusively?

I bought a Prophet Rev 2 8 voices recently and learning. Since I'm not yet fully capable of creating my own sounds, I'd like to know if the Prophet Rev 2 is capable of creating phat/warm bass lines; I've been listening to the Moog Sub Phatty and Little Phatty, and also been wondering if the Behringer Model D would be a good option too.

Unfortunately, all these machines have a high price tag and I believe that the Prophet Rev 2 should be capable of providing me with phat bass lines? Again, does purchasing an analog bass mono synth make sense for a DSI Prophet Rev 2 owner?

Any suggestions, tips or advice is appreciated!

Thanks for your time!

I went with a Novation Bass Station 2 -- IMO, a great complementary bass / mono lead synth to the Rev2, and a good value.   It has two good sounding filters, built in arp, presets, and is really performance oriented.... chain it up via MIDI to the Rev2, and you've got a really versatile setup.

You're selling the P-08 short.  Here are some of my recordings with the P-08 in the bass.  While the Pro-2 is my "go to" bass axe, the P08 is no slouch.

Something like this (bass is Rev2, pad is Rev2, lead is Evolver, percussion samples played on Akai S5000)?

Rev2 is perfectly capable playing nice full and deep bass parts.
DAW-less and going down the Eurorack rabbit hole.

Thanks for looking! I spent the last two days researching, decided that is best to get another synth; I was going for a Moog Minitaur, since it's Bass that I'm looking for; but noticed that my local dealer got the Behringer Model D in stock last night, that was so far a mission impossible because of all the preorders and queues; I got it this morning before work; So, I'll try it tonight!

I'd have thought that the model D would be more hassle for you as I'm sure it doesn't have the facility to store patches so you're always going to have to make your own ones up?

Maybe a Neutron from Behringer. On Sonicstate they made a review about the synth and they say it's a Bass monster :)

Pioneer/DSI AS-1 is a good bass synth. Same with Moog Sub 37.

The Rev2 bass sound is to me even more deep than my Moog Subsequent 37, it’s got to be the fact that in unison mode it allocates either up to 8 or 16 voices and bass from the Rev2 is so thick and wide.  I just finished a Drum and Bass tune with the main bassline from the Rev2, although I did layer the bottom end out with a sub bass from the Moog.  If anyone wants to hear the tune here’s the link to it on our SoundCloud..

You can get astounding bass from any of the prophets.

+ turn off osc slop
+ using a single oscillator, or synced oscs, helps keep the sound clear.
+ turn of detuning.
+ use recursive envelopes to get that snappy bass sound
+ use saw/tri to get that moog style thick bass
+ if you use unison, turn of unison detune.
+ so easy on the sub osc to keep things clear
+ 4pole: turn filter way down to 12/24, resonance up to 90, and keytracking to 64 for a heavy sine osc subbby bass.

Honestly you can do it all from the prophet. Very useful as you can have the lower half of the keyboard be your bass and the top half be whatever else you're doing. Sometimes nice to have more than one keyboard sitting in front of you, but def not a requirement
