Qs: Midi, keys, layers...
« on: February 23, 2018, 01:33:12 PM »
Hi,
My first post here.

I'm trying to decide if the Rev2 is right for me and so am hoping I can get an answer or two to some questions like these:

1) With Layer B inactive, are the keys functional while Rev2 is being sequenced by external midi ? Does all the note info get 'merged' and treated as if from a single source? Of course I understand max polyphony is what it is (8 or 16).

2) If you want to stack layers and sequence with external midi, is it necessary to use two identical sequences on two midi channels ?

Thanks

The Rev2 has a "Multimode" but I haven't used it yet. When turned on in the globals it acts as two separate synths that can have their own midi channels and even be sent to separate audio outputs.
With multimode turned off it behaves as one synth with two layers. Both layers receive the same midi channel. All notes (polyphony) are used on the single midi channel.

Quote
12 . Multi Mode: On, Off— Multi Mode allows separate MIDI control of
voices 1-8 and voices 9-16 on 16-voice systems. (On 8-voice systems
this is voices 1-4 and voices 5-8.) This enables independent, bi-timbral
control of the Prophet Rev2.
When Multi Mode is on, the Prophet Rev2 responds to MIDI data on two
consecutive MIDI channels — the base channel (selected in the Global
menu) and the next highest channel. The base channel controls voices 1-8
(or 1-4 on 8-voice systems) and the other channel controls voices 9-16
(or 5-8 on 8-voice systems). Notes, program changes, and other MIDI
data received on the specified channels provide independent control of
the two parts.
Note that a program change needs to be sent to each of the two chan-
nels when setting up Multi Mode. Only Layer A of the selected program
is loaded. There are no stacks or splits in Multi Mode. Use CCs or
Layer A NRPNs for automation of parameters. Program Layer B data is
completely ignored in Multi Mode

Hey, Chimponaut.
I've read that part of the manual but it doesn't answer my questions.

Thanks for your help anyway.  :)

Edit: I should say that differently.
I think it answers my 2nd Q but I'm asking for confirmation:
It looks to me like the answer should be Yes.

(Is there a way to edit a post?)
