Custom Waves

Custom Waves

A question for those that programmed the oscillators or for those who are in charge of the revision of the operating system.
Thereエs no way of get memory space in the dspエs to upload single cycles or samples waves via midi or usb and use it like oscillators?
Maybe in a future revision you could do this upgrade, sure the users of this synths will be grateful.

Anyway: if you read this and you like it support it and maybe we get it!

Sorry to be the spoilsport, but DSI has said previously, that the codespace inside the Prophet 12 is filled to the brimpoint, so nothing new will find it's way in there... I think you should consider the Prophet 12 as "what you see is what you get" these days... have not been an update for a very long time now.

I know that there was talk about the extra waveforms that the Pro2 has, because many wanted these in the Prophet 12 as well, but it was explained as "not possible" back then... so I'd say; forget about it... what you have now is all it will ever be :) ... be happy with what you got, instead of what you do not... besides, the Prophet 12 is one of DSI's most stable synths in my opinion.

Absolutely.  WYSIWYG in the P12 and what I see still blows my mind 2 years in  ;)

Thanks for your answers!
Iエm quite happy with  I get with this synth, hehe.....buuuuut I think that with  this upgrade I could get other timbres easily, without the sometimes tedious programming. Maybe I could dispense with some of the wave types of the synthesizer itself as well as violet noise in order to load my own waveforms. Imagine this instrument with other waveforms through those filters. Maybe I have to change my question.
Could you do a new upgrade by removing a waveform and leaving that space to load customs waveforms?
Would you like this to happen?

Removing a waveform would mean that loads of previously programed presets would sound wrong, so i personally would not like such a move, and i am pretty certain DSI would never destroy backward compatibility.

I understand your wishes, i have a few features i would like to see as well, but with DSI's comments on this earlier, I would simply forget about it, and take the synth for what it is... I feel that this is the most certain philosophy about DSI instruments... What you see is what you get... Even with some known bugs as well...

Hello again
I admire your persistence, ok i forget it
buuuut
How many presets have the violet noise wave?
I could do without this waveform, I prefer one place (or two) for custom waves like prophet vs!
I survive without DSI presets that contain violet noise!
Pls give me a vote of favor

Nope... Ziphoid hosts the C-64 remix site and all the C-64 remixes... I just happen to know him and he has given me some free space for my files ;)

About the Violet noise... I do not know how many presets that use it, but I'm pretty darn certain you'll not get DSI to remove anything already in there... besides, noise "waveforms" are algorithmic, not a waveform in memory because if you only have a single cycle of noise, it would just sound like a static bright tone... the only waves in there to exchange would be the wavetable ones... I'm not even certain that the standard analog waveforms are in there as waveforms in a table... they are probably also generated algorithmically like the noise "waveforms".

Don't get me wrong, I'd REALLY have liked the P12 to have user waves like the Evolvers... that is one of the biggest omissions from the Evoler series, along with the missing sequencers... but I followed the debate on the forum when DSI was asked to include extra waves... and the response was rather direct... it cannot be done (or wont, that's up to you to decide)... just wanted you to not sit and wait for something that will never happen... I've tried that a couple of times with DSI before, so I'm talking from experience ;) ... be happy instead, that the P12 is the synth from DSI with least unfixed bugs (if there are any left at all... don't know).

I'm waiting for DSI to give us all a sampler synth instead, with VCF/VCA/FX ... then you can put all the waves in that one :D (if they ever make one that is)

Yup... but for some reason I've had a feeling for quite some time that Dave would eventually give us this sampler-synth... and I was right :) ... luckily.

I知 waiting to see if a module version is released. Between my Rev2 and NI KK mk2 I have enough decent synth action keybeds and no room for another.  I do like the Prophet X demos though.

We'll I agree with both sides of this.  As Razmo said, I doubt you'll see a change- though I too would gladly sacrifice violet noise for an user waveform slot.    But,  that being said.  Lamatrois, Turn on your oscilloscope and watch the endless waveforms you can create with four oscillators with variable wave shape, FM, AM, and other mods.  And don't for get, you can stack 8 sines and you can get into some additive territory.   Lots there to get you very close to anything I need, but it takes a little more finesse than just loading a shape.

I am probably not your standard user, but I wanted to offer an opinion. What I see as great about the P12 is the ability to create complex sounds, with the ability to change them in real time using expression controls. If I used samples in this way it would destroy the original sonic qualities of the samples and I don't see this as an advantage. If I were using samples I would want to morph between the samples retaining some of their timbral qualities, but I see the P12 in terms of the areas between the given waveforms. Perhaps this is a shortcoming in my perception of synthesis, but to take a carefully chosen sample and then scramble it seems counterintuitive.

Chaparral,

I think we were all referring to waveforms as it pertains to the P12.  Not samples (like recorded snipbits) like you have in a traditional sampler.

I agree with you though that if I was using a sampler my use would be for the particular quality of sample itself and the enjoyment of making my own samples.  I can envision sampling some string instruments that I have laying around,  or some human voices, a few percussion sounds and maybe even my dog.  Realistically though,  I don't see myself making hundreds and hundreds of samples in my basement.  So while I've always wanted to mess with a hardware sampler, I'm not so sure I can invest in a dedicated hardware sampler, or even the fine Prophet X to do that.   Maybe I could test the waters with a software app, which I've considered.  Anyway...this brings up a whole other topic for me- which is- do I even want to get into that realm?  I cannot say never,  but as of now, I have no interest in the large library Kronos, Mottiff, etc type instruments.   Nor have I ever purchased or downloaded a patches for any my instruments come to think of it.  So for me, I think its the satisfaction of making my own sounds and making something pretty out of that.

But mangling samples is exactly what the new Prophet X will doo, and I can find lots of fun in mangling samples at audio rate speeds... The result will depend a lot on the sample material of course, but I'm sure you can find uses for it.

(Stemming off this offshoot. ...) I agree with this. If intriguing, new sound is the goal, I find the philosophies behind the two different approaches quite intriguing. In one sense, P12, a build-up; PX, a break-down. And in that sense, it's funny the all-"subtractive" synth is the build-up. In this sense, I ascribe break-down to PX, because I see one of its strongest gravitational pulls as the break down of its factory/user whole foods.

That says what I mean't better - thanks! I guess it's the 25 years of DX7 ownership showing through  ;) .
