Help ! Is my Tempest's recording function broken?

Have I missed something glaringly obvious in the System setup page, or is my recently acquired Tempest broken? A newbie query, but basically the record function won't work ! With 16 sounds and pads ON, the metronome click doesn't even sound when I then press play and record. I have the Tempest synched (Slave Thru) to a Drumbrute, both going through a mixer, and the timing is spot on. But I'm scratching my head, and starting to worry. Thanks JD

Few things to check.

a) the click track takes up a voice, so if you already have 6 voices playing you won't hear the click.

b)the sequencer has limitations, i think its 8 slots if i remember rightly, so if in the bar 1 beat 1 you record information for 8 different pads if you try to record more they are just ignored until you free up some slots for that particular timeslot in the sequencer.
