Question about Sync and FM working together

Question about Sync and FM working together
« on: November 27, 2017, 01:21:15 AM »
To learn more about the Pro 2, and synthesis in general, I am studying some of the preset patches. In this case “P21 F5 Fretless”.
Osc 1 Sine, Pitch=C3
Osc 2 Super muted, Pitch=C2
Osc 3 Muted, Pitch=C2, SYNC ON
Osc 4 Sine, Pitch=G3, SYNC ON

In the modulation matrix:
Env 4 - Osc 4 FM (Amount=0)
Env5 – Osc 3 FM (Amount=0)

I am trying to find out how “Sync” and “FM” works together in this case but I don’t get it. If Sync is turned OFF FM goes wild, so it seems like Sync overrides it to some extent, but not completely.

And also: Why is FM still working when amount=0?

And also: Why use Sync with the slave (Osc 3) set to a lower frequency than the master (Osc 4)? Is Sync only used to “tame” the FM effect?

Hi,

the patch has no FM in use its just in the envelopes as destination, the velocity and and lfo1 effect the oscs pitch, they go wild unsynced.

Hope this helps and is correct, :)

Thanks. But actually FM DO have effect. If you turn off the lfo1effect you can hear it. Switch osc4FM and osc3FM to off and compare!

Hi,

i looked in the Modmatrix and found nothing. Env3 and Env4 got Velocity amounts active on the third page and they have effect thats right.

Hope this helps,
