Looking to purchase a Tempest

Looking to purchase a Tempest
« on: October 24, 2017, 06:35:51 AM »
Ive checked the machine when it first came out but didn't buy.
I come from mpc/ drum machine background.
But unfortunately where i live I'm unable to demo the machine.
The drum synthesis scares me a little as its totally new to me
Any decent sound bytes/ sysex files/ youtube clips you could recommend.
peace

Thankyou Yorgos
I stumbled across your site last night.
Great patches
Having owned an original 808, you've done a great job of the 808 patch. 👏

Thanks man :D T's really an amazing inspirational instrument! If you're willing to spend some time learning it and designing your own sounds it'll bring so much to your creativity!Highly recommended!
I also own an MPC Live and T's the perfect companion...They work perfectly together!
Thankyou Yorgos

Hers the quality of the polysynth inside the Tempest. This is just a 3 note chord and its capable of 6 note chords (6 voices), granted you can't run it as a drum machine AND a 6 chord polysynth at the same time however a 3 note chord and drums is totally workable, if your using it as sound design in a DAW creating dance tracks its amazing just as amazing as it is a live instrument if your wanting to gig with it. It eschews sonic quality and actually for the cost of one you get ton for your money its so diverse once you get to grips with the Tempest you'll not look back. I didn't. Took me a while to learn it but its totally worth it honestly.

While I can understand patch programming seeming a bit scary at first, the Tempest is still my favorite synthesizer to program!

I am able to create somewhat complex patches in under a minute on the thing! With drum patch creation though, the devil is often in the details... and there are some really cool (and well documented) tricks that can help you achieve all kinds of sounds (modulating envelopes with envelopes etc.)

If you are a studio guy I'm sure you'll find tons of uses for it!

Thanks for the feedback
I bought one, just waiting to get it.
It's a v deep machine
The scary thing is just the fact with creating patches etc
It's all new to me as used to working with samples or drum machines.
So the workflow may be a little slower.
I was hoping to get some decent patches I can tweak then develop my own stuff as time goes on.
It will fit nice along my trusty Juno 60.

If you have a Juno 60, understanding that synth will go a long way to understanding the Tempest, granted the Tempest can be more complex but you have to understand the basic functions of any synth to get the most out of it.

So knowing what envelopes do, what filters and oscillators and lfo's do etc etc are the building blocks of Tempest patches, except the Tempest has layers of these functions stacked upon one another.

The real key to understanding the Tempest is to learn what a voice is, what it does, what it can consist of and what its limitations are. This might be a little overwhelming to understand before you get the Tempest, but once you get it things will become clearer.

If you have any questions drop them, theres going to be a few, i'm pretty sure everyone has a couple to ask i know i definteltly did.

Take the time to learn the instrument and it will reward your efforts tenfold i promise.

Good luck on your journey mate!

I'd suggest loading a bunch of folders with sounds into the Tempest (folders for kicks, snares, leads etc.) If you have the "16 sounds" pad function selected, and the "pads" screen selected you can hit a pad and if you want to change the sound for that pad, the rotary soft knobs above the screen will allow you to choose a folder and demo different sounds. I find that playing around like that swapping sounds in and out on the various pads can lead to some cool kits, and it's super easy to do.

Only spent a few hours with the tempest.
Sounds great.
I'm blown away by it
It's a very deep machine but the layout is Very easy to pick up.
Amazing workflow
its one of the best machines I've owned and not even scratched the surface yet
