Any way of limiting the number of poly voices?

Any way of limiting the number of poly voices?

As far as I can tell from the Rev2 manual, there is no way to limit the number of voices, in normal poly mode. Unison mode lets you set the number of unison voice from 1 - 16 (in a 16 voice Rev2, which is the only one I am considering), but normal poly mode is always 16.

I'm kind of fond of the voice-stealing in the Prophet-5 and Prophet-6...there is a certain feel when playing slow-release pads, when the polyphony is limited to just 5 or 6 voices.

Use it in stacked mode, and make one layer silent. ... It's a funny "1st-world" problem request, but I agree the flexibility is useful.

Thank you for answering but i realy think this is not a proper solution to the problem.

Your result is going to be either 4 or 8 (rev2 8/16) voices nor 5 nor 6.
but playing 5 or 6 voice chords with the max voice count corresponding to this, does have a very unmistakable sound.

So is there a way of doing so?

You can't get the voice stealing behavior of less voices if that's your only goal (other than halving voices with the aforementioned stack trick), but there is a way to emulate the general per-voice performance of lower voice models of classic poly synths.

I wrote up an article at http://www.VoiceComponentModeling.com that outlines the concept, and specific modulation techniques to virtually model 4-voice, 5-voice, 6-voice or 8-voice synths... it captures the "per-voice offsets" to tuning, envelopes, filters, etc...  though doesn't actually result in voice stealing (which most people view as negative anyways.. you are right that it does have a certain sound for long release pads/strings)

Also there's more info about Voice Modeling in this thread:

Is it not possible to defeat individual voices like it is on P6 and OB-6? On those synths it is possible to disable voices entirely.

Hi,
If you press a key and then press Hold+Glide the note will be disabled..
When you turn the power on/off the the synth go back to normal
