SoundCloud saved by emergency funding

I've been following SoundCloud's troubles for a while, while preparing to jump ship to YouTube or Bandcamp. This is welcome news, and there's some hope of turning SoundCloud around, ideally with a model for long-term profitability.

Basically, they laid off almost half their staff, including people that were hired two weeks prior (relocating, in some cases), but that only saved them enough money to survive to the end of the year. Now they've got a couple investors and a new CEO, so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

Good news.
I used all my Soundcloud minutes for trash really and should do a clean-out to try to make some decent use of the account.

Here's a pretty good article by Peter Kirn on that topic and the paradoxes of trying to survive with streaming services: http://cdm.link/2017/07/soundcloud-tries-allay-fears-streaming-broken/

It will be interesting to see how they try to keep it going.

I guess it's adverts, charging the music posters, or charging the music listeners.
