Pro 2 Pitch Wheel resolution?

Pro 2 Pitch Wheel resolution?
« on: August 08, 2017, 02:32:58 PM »
Hey guys, I am wondering about something regarding my Pro 2 and the pitch wheel resolution. Namely when the pitch down is set to 1 octave and you slowly pitch down, there is quite obvious stepping between the different pitches? I have a P12 and on it, regardless of how slow you pitch bend, you never hear the stepping between the pitches. Is this something that needs to be set in the settings by any chance?

Just bumping this again as there are 42 views but no comments? Does that mean other pro 2s are not exhibiting this behavior?
Regardless of how i set it the resolution of the pitch wheel seams 'coarse' rather than 'fine' if that makes sense?

My P2 is not connected up at the moment but from my memory there was no stepping in the pitch wheel.

I would get in contact with DSI support, they will sort it out for you.

DSI support confirmed it on their end and it will be looked at when they get to updating the Pro 2. Apparently this doesnt happen when the Pro 2 is receiving MIDI pitch bend.

Here is the video demonstrating what happens including a comparison with the Prophet 12

So they are saying that is normal and a software issue?

My P2 is still not connected up but I remember nothing like that!

Hi,

https://soundcloud.com/martin2-2/pro-2-pitch sounds like it should. Try calibrating Pitchwheel and disconnect MIDI and USB to see if it keeps stepping.

Hope this helps,

Both sound stepped indeed. As I mentioned I havent tried external pitch wheel MIDI..
Hopefully it can be fixed with an update but for some reason I am not too confident that will be the case

Hi,

i hear clear difference between the provided video and my test. Init Programm pitches up down 7 semitones so there wont be 700 steps in each direction to get to the cents. Maybe compare them again.

If you want to compare other settings (2 semitones) let me know.

Hope this helps,

Martin3

Pitchbend has 2^14 discrete values, so 16384 in total.

Ok interesting development. I tried a pro2 today in a store that had the 1.2  firmware and the pitch bend was very smooth, nothing like on my pro2.

Is the 1.2 firmware available anywhere to test?

Hi,

so now we know the resolution should be enough. I was thinking in CC world. Sorry i dont have an 1.2 did the test here with the 1.3 OS.

Like recommended eventually try disconnecting external things and calibrate the wheel, eventually Reset the Gobal Parameters.

Hope this helps,

Martin3

Hi martin3

I never had anything else connected apart from the audio jacks. The wheel calibration didn't help at all with the issue.

I'll see if I have an older version of the firmware that I updated from to test
