Sound clips of the Prophet 12 in mono mode anyone?
« on: June 02, 2017, 12:13:29 PM »
I'm looking in to getting the 12 to replace all of my gear, sorta need a "do it all" synth. Just don't have the room for all the gear. Does anyone have any sound clips of the 12 playing in mono with just one voice?

You'll be disappointed if you look to the P-12 as a "do-it-all" synth.  It is very powerful, and it is fast becoming my all-time favorite.  However, I cannot say that it really replaces any of the synths I have.
Jim Thorburn .  Toys-  Dave Smith: Prophet 5, Rev 4; Prophet 08; Pro 2; Prophet 12 module; EastWest Orchestral soft synths; Yamaha S-90; Yamaha Montage 8, Yamaha DX-7; KARP Odyssey; Ensoniq ESQ-1.  All run through a Cubase DAW with a Tascam DM-24 board.

P12 is a fantastic synth in the digital realm with its pads, polysynths, FM, etc. [I have the module]

So I'd say it could easily replace all of one's 'digital' gear (sans acoustic sounds).

But I also keep a Moog Voyager and have a Rev2 on pre-order to round things out on the analog end of the spectrum.

With that said, I've just recorded some P12 Mono sounds:

Those were two tantalizing answers/comments from Prophet 12 owners.  I'd love to hear more details from both of you.

On a recent project, I incorporated sounds for the most part from Propellerhead Reason, a Korg (sample/rom), and the P12. All digital lineup with only a sprinkling of analog.

While each synth performed their role, and Reason is arguably the true all-arounder technically in my opinion, the P12 stood out on every track as sounding more dynamic, more interesting - more 'pro'.

I found I had to 'force' myself to not rely too heavily on the P12, as there are just too many great sounding patches around every turn of the knob : )

I recently used only the P12 to record an arrangement of Holst's The Planets.  The individual voices were recorded in Unison/Mono and was meant to sound as 70's analog as I could get.  Here's the recording of Mercury...hope this helps give an idea of how "analog mono" the P12 can sound  ;)

Thank You  8)

I've been conserving my SoundCloud minutes for an upcoming album, but I'm happy to put Mars up for at least the next month or two  ;)
