How to add a rest & ties while entering a sequence NOT on editing a existing ..

I read the manual V1.1 of the Pro 2, but there is no description of
how to add a rest & ties while entering a sequence - How does it work or is this impossible on entering a new sequence?
I know how to do it on a existing one.
