Midi Thru / Out 2: Any workaround to pass midi from USB to Thru?

I currently have the DSI Pro 2 hooked up to Ableton via USB, and a Nord Modular that I'd like to pass notes through via the DSI, using Midi Thru / Out 2. Everything I've read online so far says it isn't possible. Is it likely to be supported in future? (Can't think why this wouldn't be possible as a main use for Thru?)

Or should I just go out and buy another Midi output for the laptop?

No, the thru port is hardwired to the MIDI DIN IN port.  The Pro 2 will not act as a MIDI interface and pass USB MIDI data to the MIDI DIN OUT/THRU port.
