Hey all - the new Mystery Fix is out today on Gare du Nord. I think I posted a video from the album a bit back. Mystery Fix is a project by Tim Walters, that for this album, features me on most vocals. I wrote lyrics for the tunes I sing on. Tim, though, is the musical mind behind the project. I don’t think he’s got any Sequential gear - he used a lot of Soma stuff and much modular. The synths are gorgeous throughout. Tim has a great ear for sonics. I did add a bit of Prophet 5 to a track or two, but those tracks didn’t make the cut! One tries…

Anyway, I’m pleased the album is finally out. Give it a spin if you like…

And just like that.....it's all gone.

Although this is a piece I did a few weeks ago, something happened over the past few days that has deeply affected me. This piece symbolizes my emotion right now.

Originally I did this as a single track but after I started muting certain elements I found that in actuality I created two tales of madness.

Ennio Morricone's experimental jazz scores for Giallo films are the main inspiration here.

Movement One: An acoustic piano with ring modulator effect, unnerving percussion and brooding synth.

Movement Two: Arco strings which are clashing atonally with one another creating tension, rumbling synth and frantic jazz trumpet with loads of echo and reverb.

I have no idea what the future holds, right now I am just trying to figure things out.

This track was actually one I did a while back, it was the last track I did with the ISLA S2400 before I sold it. It's an excellent machine for those that are thinking about picking it up.

This is a tribute to Giuliano Sorgini's score for the 1975 film Return Of The Exorcist. There's some genuinely creepy moments in this one and it was awesome seeing Richard Conte in his later years (Conte was a film noir staple back in the 40s/50s and later on he did a few exploitation flicks in Italy, specifically Eurocrime.

The music itself is a blend of classic Gregorian chants, synth, and some hip-hop style beats. Very similar to Alessandro Alessandroni's score for Killer Nun.

The Prophet X is doing a string machine type sound for the main melody as well as the spoken choir which are being modulated by an LFO and run through the onboard reverb and phaser.

The Tempest is doing a simple rhythm on a Boss DR-55 kit.

The S2400 is simply doing a lo-fi breakbeat which is pitch and beat synced.

Hope you all enjoy!

Just a short update this week. I finished the full soundtrack to Delirium 13 for Astra United but while I was in the studio I ended up doing a few other tracks.

This one is a cover from Whitey Thomas' synth score for the immortal Nail Gun Massacre!

I have no idea what synths/drum machines Thomas used but for this it's 100% DSI Tempest. The more I use the Tempest, the more in awe I am of how powerful and versatile it is. In fact, most of the tracks I did this weekend were done on the Tempest!

I did this in two passes. First the Linn Drum beat and synth bass. Both the snare and toms are being sent out via one of the voice outs to a large reverb as well as a guitar amp emulation (This was suggested by Roger Linn as "Cabinet Distortion" which was implemented on the 1010Music Razzmatazz drum machine!-what a brilliant suggestion). I sent the main synth bass line out to another voice out as well.

The second pass was doing with a basic synth pad with it's pitch being modulated by an LFO.

Beware! The next time someone tries to nail you.....they might just do it! MWAHAHAHA

I have a new album "Sailors On The Roiling Sea" coming out on 22nd November. Full of Pro-One, Prophet 5, Mellotron 400, Hammond C3, ARP Pro Soloist etc! I tried to record as much of it on real instruments as opposed to their software counterparts.

Here's the first single which came out at the end of September, "AI Trash":

Hey all, just a quick update this week. Still out there looking for work but I'm trying my best to keep up with my music as well.

I'm a big fan of what you would call "knock offs". More often than not I almost always prefer them to their Hollywood counterparts (which, more often than not, are also knock offs).

The film Dreamstalker is wild. Shot on video slasher with clear inspiration from A Nightmare On Elm Street......but with dirt bikes!! WHOA! Grab the Blu Ray now from Terror Vision Records!

The theme is rocking. No idea what the original used but for this it's 100% Tempest. Lots of Prophet VS bells and synth lines mixed with the Sequential TOM drum machine sounds. The toms and snare are going out to a large reverb with some amp distortion on them. The synth parts are going out to an external Chorus effect.

Hope you all enjoy!

I only noticed that this is a cover of a John Botch/Rich Hardesty thing... funny! I was just talking to Botch this morning. Small freakin' world! John was the first person to stick me in a real recording studio, to which I dragged my rev 2 Prophet 5! Rich produced a few things for me back then as well. Great people.

Hey all - this is an alternate version of a song that originally came out last year on my Morgenmusick/Nachtschlager double album. This new version features a very proggy solo - Prophet 5 - plus the 5 doing some chord work as well. Brad Cross on drums and backing vocals and Larry Tagg on bass. Hope you enjoy!

Wow that’s awesome! Please feel free to show off my cover. I’d love to hear what gear they used to record the original.

I missed the listening party, but I can testify that this is a wonderful album. A keyboardist's/synthesist's dream... very organic, all the right sounds and excellent performances and production. Oh, and SONGS!

Hey all. I've never been a fan of SOV (Shot on Video) movies until very recently. Blood Lake is a 1987 slasher flick. Although the soundtrack is mostly 80s Heavy Rock by the band Voyager, Russell D Allen has some nice synth pieces in there and I decided to give the main theme a try.

No idea what was used on the original but for this it's 100% Tempest. All done in one take with a voice out on the digital sounding Prophet VS piano type part being run through a chorus and delay inside Digital Performer. The rest of the analog sounds are being run through a chorus inside DP as well.

Overall I think it turned out well. Hope you enjoy!

Here's something "in the family." Our own Nick Carlisle has a new EP out today for Bandcamp Friday, with a remix done by me, it seems. Nick's album is gorgeous and this particular song all the more so. I tried not to stomp on it too hard. The epic low note on the remix is from the Trigon, by the way!
