Hey all. Just another track I did recently while moving over to Digital Performer full time. I recently saw the film Digital Man (1995) and loved it so I wanted to do a tribute to the theme by Jim Goodwin. Not a 1:1 cover but I think it turned out well.

The Prophet X is doing the strings, M1 style magic piano, synth and guitar sounds as well as some cinematic pads and twisting metallic sounds.

The ISLA S2400 is doing the drums using a Roland R8 sample pack I got from Cyborg Studio and I believe a few orchestral snare rolls from the EMU library. The S2400 is also sequencing everything as well.

After a trying week. I'm trying to remain positive and move forward.

As always, hope you enjoy and thank you for your support.

We (wife/best-friend and I) made a trip to the Oregon coast to walk on the beach, read books, make meals together, and sip some wine. We each took along some of the fundamental accoutrement of our favorite hobbies. For me, that meant a couple of desktop synths, a tiny keyboard controller, and my laptop with Logic Pro.

Attached image goes here, but I'm not clever enough to figure out how to get it to show here ...

While watching an impressive storm rage on the beach/ocean in front of us, I improvised a piece. I played the Peak and the Trigon-6 with the same midi input  and decided I quite liked the combined "patch". The Novation Peak patch had a faster attack and so is more in the front. I had a darker and slower attack patch dialed up on the Trigon; it provides more of the atmospheric and darker part of the sound.

After playing it back, my wife wondered aloud if it would be possible to capture some of the ocean sounds, so I added "wave" acoustics using noise generators and filter sweeps from both the Peak and Trigon. Later when I got home, I recorded some of the counterpoint "flute-like" melody with the Minimoog. I spent more time than I would like to admit creating the rhythm/drum parts with hand-baked hits through EZ Drummer kits and Punch Box. And the occasional seagull chirps are from a sliced up loop that I found in the Logic Pro library.

It is very much an atmospheric/ambient (aka boring) piece. But it evokes good memories for me of our time there.

markwilkins,   That looks to be quite a nice spot for inspiration.  Tell your wife the ocean/seagull sounds were a good idea.

Thanks (from both of us)! She does usually have good ideas (the balance of good ideas between the two of us is strongly in her favor).

Hey all. This week I wanted to try something a bit more free form. I wanted to go back to my love of Spaghetti Western flicks and scores but approach it as a more atmospheric type of piece.

The Prophet X is doing everything. Church bell, atmospheric guitar ambience, dobro, jew harp, percussion, flute and electric guitar (run through a rotating speaker effect). No MIDI clock sync, just multiple tracks recorded after another with the samples looped and just letting the PX go where it wanted to.

The title as well as the footage is from the Public Domain film The Strangers Gundown (aka Django The Bastard). It was one of the films I constantly watched when I was first getting into the genre of Spaghetti Westerns so it holds a special place in my heart.

Both my pups were in the studio with me when I recorded a few tracks. I can't express how much both they and my girlfriend have helped me in regards to supporting me through thick and thin. I wouldn't be able to do this without them.

Hope you all enjoy.

Hey all. Another track I did recently. I've been a big fan of The First Power since I rented it from Jumbo Video when I was younger and always thought it was a bit underrated. This isn't a cover of the score by Stewart Copeland (yes, drummer of The Police) but it's heavily inspired by it. Lots of percussion oriented sounds mixed with ominous Fairlight CMI sounds (Copeland used the Fairlight a lot).

The Prophet X is doing the famous Sararrr sample, electric bass, reverse piano, demonic whispers and percussion on an acoustic drum kit.

The Tempest is doing an 808 style hi hat with random panning as well as some Simmons style percussion run through the onboard tuned feedback.

The S2400 is doing the majority of drums/percussion sounds from the CMI library (including the Tibetan chant loop, tabla, timpani, heavy gated snare, shaker, kick drum, finger bell). The S2400 is also doing all of the external sequencing of the PX and general song structure.

Everything is synced via MIDI clock from Mark Of The Unicorn's Digital Performer.

Hope you enjoy!

Back when the reissue of the PS-3300 was announced, someone on this forum pointed out that Cherry Audio had a PS-3300 plugin for $50. I bought a copy of that. It's a pretty decent plugin. I ended up making this song with the intent of swapping out the various software plugin patches with tracks from hardware synths. But I ended up only adding in a bass track with the Trigon-6. All the rest are "in the box". PS-3300: arp and melody. U-He Diva: bass. Omnisphere: pads/sweeps.

Hi all - my new video is out today. Animated donuts filmed in my dad's house the day after his funeral. What's not to like?
It's a guitar-heavy track, but it's got loads of sneaky Prophet 5 within.
Hope you enjoy!

Very cool. It looks like you had fun making that video! Your songs often remind me of David Bowie (I mean that as a compliment … hoping you don’t dislike Bowie :) )

I'm a huge Bowie fan - I usually steal his moves from "Be My Wife" when we're doing videos! Geek notes - bassist Andy here was in Squeeze during the time they supported Bowie on the Glass Spiders tour and drummer Urbano was in the Celebrating David Bowie band with Adrian Belew and Mike Garson...

All that to say thanks for the compliment!

A track I did recently. Combing elements of Carpenter's score for the video game Sentinel Returns and Alan Howarth's score to the film Arcade, I wanted to try and see how I could utilize the "cinematic" "ambience" and special effects categories in the Prophet X for a score like this.

The only user samples are the Liquid Stack from the EMU library as well as the Prophet 2000 choir and strings, everything else is all factory sounds from the PX.

Hope you enjoy!

This is a track and video I did last year. I actually found a few of them that I never got around to posting. I figure no time like the present.

This is a semi cover/tribute to Alex Parker's score for Psycho Cop. A fun little  slasher from 1989. Although it's sequel (Psycho Cop Returns) got a blu ray release from Vinegar Syndrome, the original film still hasn't got a proper release.

No idea what Parker used on the score but the Prophet X is handling everything on this track. Piano, synth and even the drums. It starts off with a slow brooding piece and then kicks into a driving stalking theme. Nothing fancy but I think it turned out well.

Hope you enjoy!

This is Prophet 10 synth (Rev 4)
Interesting no one else has tagged any items on this website with Prophet 10 Rev 4.  Just a few more Prophet 10 Rev 4 Synth uploaders there is what they need.

A masterpiece of fear. Steven Spielberg's first film, Duel, is so simple and yet it's so incredibly effective. Aiding the suspense was composer Billy Goldenberg.

From the soundtrack's liner notes:

"Composer Billy Goldenberg was given scoring duties to bring this rust-colored score to life, ultimately ranking as one of the most abstract and experimental works in the composer's output. Less a presentation of themes than it is a collection of unnerving effects and moods, Goldenberg's music gets inside the addled brain of David Mann (Weaver) producing a portrait of terror and disintegrating rationality as Mann struggles to fight back against his implacable, anonymous foe.

Goldenberg scored for a group of 39 players, limited to strings, harp, keyboards, guitars and percussion, with no brass or woodwinds. Veteran percussionist Emil Richards provided a number of exotic instruments from his vast collection amassed from around the world, and Goldenberg hired Paul Beaver to supply effects with a Moog synthesizer."

For this, it's 100% Prophet X. The strings, waterphone, percussion, synth, piano, desert sound effects. Everything. The sequencing is all done via the PX's internal sequencer and arpeggiator. I simply just layered one sequence on top of another and used Digital Performer's clock to keep sync. It's not 100% a 1:1 cover but I think it turned out very well.

Hope you enjoy!

That sounds good.  Do you know the theme song from Taxi?  I was thinking maybe a competition for who could do the most nostalgia drenched rendition in e piano and synth of the theme for Taxi.  I know it's not me as I am merely a guitar player and not much with keyboards yet.  Not that I wouldn't like to be.  BTW anyone off the top of your head know how many times the taxi driving across the bridge footage loops while the theme song plays?  I suppose it varies depending on the cast of the show.

The morning mix/practice/jam.  Opened up my Prophet 10 synth session (Studio One) from June 4, with the droning Prophet sound that sounds a bit like a guitar playing or other string droning instrument.

I rerecord the drums here, (it's just a 2 hour practice or recording session where I recorded drums and then guitar) and even sang thru "Midnight Rider" by the Allman Brothers off Idlewild South.

In the end I busted out my Fujigen guitar and practiced guitar (rare) for the 2nd half of the video.  Touched a bit on "Mountain Jam" (a.k.a. Mountain by Donovan) during the guitar playing.
This is just practice/mixing but you hear the prophet for the whole 2 hours and it makes some really good sounds.

Today I chose my Rumble account to put the video, don't know if it will show up here but here is the link:

I can't believe after all this time, I finally got around to doing a Claudio Simonetti cover.

Simonetti's work has been hugely influential on me and he needs no introduction.

While not his best work, his score for Warriors Of The Wasteland aka The New Barbarians is a lot of fun and I wanted to see if I could do it with the gear I have.

Simonetti's synths for the score included Roland jupiter 8, roland vocoder plus, minimoog, steinway piano, electric piano (probably Rhodes), oberheim dmx, roland tr 808, roland mc4 computer.

For this...all I used was the Tempest. It's handling the 808 drums as well as the analog bass and lead lines and Prophet VS style choir. I utilized the "Reverse" function for some of the trippy parts as well as the onboard MIDI delay and compressor. The only external effects I added were some reverb and chorus from Digital Performer. I can't express enough how awesome the Tempest is. It really is a drum machine that's forward thinking and I keep hoping that we will see a successor to it some day from Sequential...especially now that it's under the Focusrite banner.

Hope you enjoy!

Gang! My new video is out today via It's Psychedelic Baby Magazine.

Usually, I'd just post the YT link, but in this case I'm posting the full article, just cos the photo is very synth-rich!

Despite the very electro-pop vibe of the song, the only synths used are a Pro One doing the bass and a Korg Prologue doing strings. Originally there was a section w P5, P6 and MS10, but minimalism won the race in the end.

Hope you enjoy!
