Couple of possible solutions for OB6 feature requests

Couple of possible solutions for OB6 feature requests

Been thinking a LOT about how to add possible upgrades to the OB6 that myself and other folks have been asking for.  We all want more LFOs for the OB6(and Prophet 6).....so I found a kinda neat possible solution for this.  It's called Midilfo and it's an iphone/ipad app that has 4 programmable fully featured mid lfos that can be triggered by note on/cc #s that sends midi CC# controllers.......why not have it on an iPhone with a midi device like iRig or Korg plugkey(I use this one)next to the ob6/Prophet6 and give you 4 additional lfos!  Only 5 bucks too!

Then there's the issue of having to hold the record button to transpose the sequencer....this possible solution I found costs a bit of money but it may work.  Midisolutions makes a product called a footswitch controller......it's midi powered and you can hook up a footswitch to it and program it to send any midi message you want including sysex data when you press the footswitch.  It will possibly make sequencer transpose(holding of the rec button) hands free and at your feet......you can pretty much program it to send any midi message you want:

http://www.midisolutions.com/prodfsw.htm

"The Footswitch Controller can be programmed to send out a System Exclusive message when the footswitch is depressed, and/or another System Exclusive message when the footswitch is released. The maximum length of each System Exclusive message is 20 bytes.

It is also possible to cause the Footswitch Controller to alternate between System Exclusive messages with each tap of the footswitch by programming the Footswitch Controller's Toggle parameter to ON."

Or I was thinking of the possibility of a latching footswitch with this functionality...options are there.

i have used expert sleepers silent way to generate an extra lfo via a usamo box which runs of my headphone out and goes to the filter pedal input (one side from headphone out - the other side does audio aligned midi from protools via usamo plugin)

With the footswitch, how exactly would it transpose the sequence?

What it does do(possibly) is put the midi message of holding down the record button to transpose at your feet(on a footswitch) then you can transpose at will(as long as footswitch is pressed).

I'm not sure if that would work. How would you even be able to program something like that.

Look at the description of the device, it is fully programmable to send any message you want when you press the footswitch...even toggle messages.  Those can be sysex up to 20 bytes long!  They have software that can program the device.  BTW, I can vouch for their units, company has been in business for a long time.  I have one of their midi thrus, been a workhorse for me....one cool feature of these units, is they are midi powered!  No external power supply needed!

http://www.midisolutions.com/prodfsw.htm

The software programmer is here:
http://www.midisolutions.com/progtool.htm

From the website info on the midi solutions footswitch controller:

"The Footswitch Controller can be programmed to send out a System Exclusive message when the footswitch is depressed, and/or another System Exclusive message when the footswitch is released. The maximum length of each System Exclusive message is 20 bytes.

So yes, as long as the OB6 pressing and releasing of the record button has a midi message when you hold it(to enable sequencer transpose), I would think you should be able to do what I'm proposing and put those messages on the footswitch.

For those of you working with a DAW, Dialog Audio's Modulation Processor 3224 is just $65 and worth checking out...provides 3x LFOs, 4x EGs, 2x slopes, sent out to your hardware over MIDI, Sysex, or even CV voltage (if your audio interface supports it).

Short review below.  The Sonic State guys also mentioned it prominently in one of their recent vids.

This sort of thing seems tailor-made for synths like the OB6 that have an excellent core sound but could use a few more modulation options...
