Oh, how I love huge synthesizers.  So much musical power waiting to be used.  Will there ever again be a two-manual polyphonic synthesizer?

Lots of great sounds in those demos. Here's another favorite by maisonvague: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muCFg1Epj40

As for two-manual synthesizers: I think those days are most definitely over. Although, I guess, there never have been those days anyway, as these types of synthesizers have been scarce from the get-go. In fact, in addition to the Prophet-10 only the Yamaha GX-1 comes to my mind, which featured a triple-tiered keyboard.

Synthesizers.com sells a few keyboards that can be stacked, but obviously, they're for monophonic modular instruments.

One of the greatest joys of my synthesizer life was having a used Prophet 10 in the musical instrument store where I worked 15 years ago. The owner let me stick around after hours to play it whenever I wanted. I hate to tell you how much we sold it for*. If I wasn't making musical instrument store wages then, I would have snapped it up.

I think that every so often, a maker needs to build something magnificent (like the Prophet 10 or the Voyager XL), and just let it all hang out, even if few are sold. That we, people look back and remember, and go, "Woah, they made that thing."

* $1600 USD, including an Anvil flight case that would probably cost $1600 now.

That pair of synthesizers would fit me perfectly for life - nothing else needed.

Yes, certainly an impressive pair that allows for enough tonal richness and sonic finesse.

It actually depresses me we won't see a successor to the P10 in the modern Sequential lineup. Just looking at this old add...it feels like something with that scope is missing in Sequential's lineup these days.

Well, I guess every bitimbral synth Sequential and DSI have designed ever since could be regarded as a kind of successor, at least with regard to the basic principle. Of course that's not the same as having two keyboards.

I love those old advertisements.  I've got a bunch saved on my PC.  And I'd agree - there's a hole in the Sequential line up.

I suppose. I guess I just want to see something with that size and scope from Sequential. Even if it's just a made to order or limited run type of thing. I know they don't usually do that but I mean after the Moog One was released I just feel like all bets are off kind of in terms of analog synths. Like the shark has been jumped. I still say a new powerhouse analog Polysynth and instead of a desktop module have an optional lower manual keyboard that can be attached. I absolutely love your Prophet-8 design for this reason although I'd probably expand the polyphony to 20 and that way the two keyboard set up would effectively be 2 Prophet 10s....now THAT'S a successor. lol
