According to Dave Smith's remarks from the REV2's YouTube introduction, more Prophet '08s were manufactured than Prophet-5s (anecdotally, about 5500-7000 units, depending on which source you consider to be accurate)–so fairly successful, by any measure.

Well that must be pretty accurate if the serial numbers are 'sequential'! I bought mine last July and it's number 61xx. It's a great synth for live and recording but I will definitely get a REV2 for live. Saves me carrying 2 wall warts and an FX unit (which is always a worry if you forget one or get the PSUs the wrong way around!!). Just wish I'd bought one years ago.
