Title: Brand New Prophet '08 -- slightly wobbly pot?
Post by: Benji on January 05, 2017, 04:31:58 PM
Hey all, very new.  Bought a Prophet '08 PE, and it arrived in perfect condition after a week of bumping around in the back of a UPS truck.  The thing works great and I couldn't love it more, but ENV 2's Decay potentiometer is slightly wobbly; if I push up on it, it comes quite loose.

Is this something I should be worried about going forward?

None of the parameter knobs should be wobbly.  However, I've had one or two that were, and in each case it was due to the knob itself having a slight crack or chip so that it wouldn't hold tightly to the parameter shaft.  You might want to test those parameters by trying the other knobs on them.  Then you'll have some sense as to whether the problem is with the shaft or the knob.

I think I'd rather not remove any knobs from my day old Prophet :P

Can't say for certain if it's the shaft or knob, but it doesn't feel like the knob is the issue because the whole thing physically lifts up and I can somewhat feel the part inside the casing moving as well.

Well then you should contact DSI Support and resolve the problem while your warrantee is still good.  All I can tell you is that I haven't had the same problem on my instruments, except as I described above.
