Does anyone have any recommendations for effects pedals that can be paired with the tempest, as well as how to use them? I'm looking to create soundscapes I can lay drums over—whether that's by routing a single voice out through various effects, or using a looper to record a pad chord sequence.
Keep in mind that I would like to do the bulk of my processing on the stereo outs. I found a couple of videos on the web of tempest users with setups that I find to be inspiring:

Are there any essential effects you would recommend? Most of my compositions are house/trance/techno/hip-hop inspired. I know that the ideal solution would probably be an octatrack, but I am on a very tight budget. Thanks in advance!

Ive pre ordered a drumbrute to tag team with the tempest and the tr-09, and I picked up three moog minifoogers: the chorus pedal, drive, and delay pedals.
They are pure analog love and the mf drive especially is super awesome on the tr-09 kick drum.

I highly recommend looking for cheap-ass rackmount gear on eBay. I bought a jhs digital delay and roland reverb unit recently, both for £30-£40, and have got a ton of use from both. Rackmount gear is great because it stacks and I find it much easier to use in a studio setting.
The Waldorf 2-Pole is a great value bit of kit for the money too, I've been using this loads, the resonant hpf and drive are really useful with the Tempest.

I agree with this sentiment-- rack gear can be extremely cheap relative to a lot of recent pedals. The one issue being that they aren't as accessible in a live setup.
Regardless of which route you go for, I think a tempo-syncable delay would be great with the Tempest and other drum machines-- there's a lot of potential with something like that. If you want to get hardcore, you could also get a gate/expander that you could side chain other rack gear or pedals to. I think there's currently a bit of a hole in the market for something new like that what with all the drum machines & synthesizers coming out! Of course you could also set something like that up with Eurorack with an envelope follower, comparator, envelope generator, and whatever effect you want to apply (amplitude, filter, delay, etc.)

I use the following delay pedals: Boss DD500 and Strymon Timeline. Both work wonderfully and are midi compatible.
