Title: Envelope programming question
Post by: dudadius on August 03, 2016, 11:29:13 PM
I notice in a lot of the sounds in the Tempest, a technique is used whereby an Envelope modulates it's own Decay setting.   Can someone explain to me what's going on with this?   What purpose it serves?   I can't wrap my head around it!

Hi,

this a way to bend them. Page 35 in the 1.3 manual explains the envelope modulating itself completely, the pictures represent the Env>Decay effect because there is no attack. With the AD(R) modulations its possible to bend selective stages of the envelope.

Hope this helps,

It's very powerful - note that you also need to tweak the decay time of the envelope whilst doing this.

The same technique also works with LFOs, for example you can modify the 'pulse width' of the square LFO by setting it  to modulate its own frequency in mod paths.
