Title: Envelopp triggering bug
Post by: kyps on September 01, 2022, 08:20:15 AM
Hello everyone,
I encounter something quite strange on my ob x8.
when I play several notes on the keyboard. They don't triggering at the same speed whereas I press all the key at the same time...

I've tried all the thing i can (vintage knob set to zero / update the firmware / clear all the setting / calibration many time)

I think something is wrong between the keyboard and the envelopp information ...

I attached the example in MP3,

Please use a patch more like a clav - with all your attack EG set at 0.  It's hard to hear because your patch fades in too much...
Thanks,
Eric

Thanks,

Not happening when you play with fast attack,

You can heard on almost every chord

Each chord mean I play all the not at the same time and you can heard some « wave » more pronounced with the second part with resonance higher

Do you have relatively long release times set on this patch? If so, it could be that what you’re hearing is the envelope starting from a non-zero value on the notes that were played on the previous chord. As you’re likely playing fewer than 8 notes in a chord, some voices may be starting from zero whereas other are starting from a non-zero value.

Try setting filter envelope release to a low or zero value and see if the phenomenon still occurs.

I checked and my release time is not really long, but that was not happening on my p10,
It’s happened on init patch and preset
Last time I had it was with a Juno 106 almost dead :/

At 15 seconds you can really heard the problem,
You can heard two « wave » of resonance

But I press the keyboard one time … and you heard like I pressed it two time

I hear it now.  Sounds like a key was pressed slow enough to trigger twice.  You may have a key with a dirty contact.  Does the double trigger occur on just one key?

Yes, I hear it now. Sounds like a delayed retriggering of the filter envelope on some notes, but not on others. Very strange behavior. Have you contacted Oberheim about it?

It happen on all the keyboard

I use a sustain pedal, and they told me than the problem can be here … maybe a bug or something, they ask me to do a video to understand the behaviour

When I use the same pedal on my prophet, it won’t happen

Unplug *everything* from the keyboard and try again.(?)
(Start from scratch. Then add connections.)

Ok so thank you for all your advice.

I tried without anything plugged into the synth.
In ob8 envelop mode I have the « triggering latency » but not in obx mode, maybe the difference between them is the re triggering envelop ?
To be sure, I sent a video to the support

What was the solution. I have the same issue with mine. It is noticeable on Slow Strings patches. I am also losing voices on slow string patches. Then, when you release the chord and play another chord, at times there will be a slight sound of portamento for half a second before with quick attack.. strange.
