I guess that's SMT technology versus the through hole PCB's that we are all used to. All the same types of components are still there, just a lot smaller. I'm guessing too that power supplies are smaller too, but the case still needs to be 5 octaves long. End result = emptier cases. They said that about the "light weight" OB8 at the time too if I recall........

The Prophet 5/10 Rev 4 are also like that. Indeed smaller components / modern electronics. They don't get hot and it's possible to make desktop versions.
