Title: P12 + P08 + Prophet 10 Rev4, am I crazy?
Post by: Quai34 on March 30, 2022, 10:20:11 PM
Hi guys,
I've been dreaming of a Prophet 5 for years but always thought the 5 voices was a bit too much and also, vintage gear with vintage price were a bit steep for an old synth but the New Rev4 checks all the boxes for me. My issue is I like a lot my P08 for its sequencer and special sound as well so, would it be crazy to keep all 3? Getting a P10 Rev4 without selling any of the previous ones? What did you do? Did you keep your P08 rev2?
I have a DsI Tetra hooked up to the P08 for the extra 4 voices so, I use it quite a lot too, same with P12...
Issue is the room in the practice room and in the studio and I feel the P10 "deserves" the keyboard...Your thoughts?

I switched out a 8-voice Rev2 keyboard for the 16-voice module, which I find just as usable and ergonomic.  I knew that if I was to get a P5/10 Rev4 that it would have to be the keyboard model.  The Prophet 5 is the synth I've always dreamed of owning.  Took delivery of a P5 Rev4 last week and it's everything I had hoped it would be.

If space is the issue I would definitely consider switching the P08 or P12 for the module but go with keys for the P5/10.

To be creative one need to be a little bit crazy :) It depends on your economy. Keep them if you can and if you find out you don’t use one or two of them sell them.

When the P5 rev 4 was released I sold my P6 to make it possible to buy the P5 (and eventually added the voice expansion card when firmware 2 was released and opened up for more possibilities). I also thought it would replace the P6. I maybe was to hurry to sell the P6, would be nice to keep as well, as they booth are great synths and different. At the other hand there is no space for one more poly, have more in the studio plus one poly at the basement as the studio is full.

I don't really know the P12 or the P08, but I have the new P5 and a P6. I love my P6 and won't part with it, but if I only had a single synth in my life, it would be the P5. That said, even with its shorter keyboard, I've switched back to the P6 as my master keyboard. But the sound of the P5 is THE sound I seek!

I have the same combination, I don't think we are crazy, the complement each other really well.

I just got a P-5 Rev 4 Keyboard as a gift from my son.  Back in the day I had a P-5 Rev. 3.0.  Regret the day I sold it.  The keyboard for me is more nostalgia than anything.

I use a Montage 8 as my main controller.  The keyboards on all the other synths are secondary.

I believe anything Dave Smith/Sequential is an investment item.  So, think twice about selling.  If you have to make one a module for space, the P-12 Module is really good.  For my setup, I prefer having the P-12 Mod to the keyboard. I do not have experience with either the P-08 or P-5 modules.

Hi guys,

I realized I had forgotten a word for the old Prophet 5, I meant "too much FOR THE PRICE", not for the synth features!!! Anyway, yes, with the little inheritance I'm going to receive in June, I could keep all 3, the sequencer of the P08 is great (but not transposable,q or did I missed something?), The P12 is so useful in all the Funk/top 20/Dance we play in our brand, like the song was made around some of its factory programs and the new P10, well, this is it, this is the legend. With all your advices, I made a decision, to keep all keys, I have the P08 on top of the P12 and both on top of the C2. That made the P08 a little bit far when I program, not that much when we play.
Prophet 12 is perfect and I will had a new branch at my L set up to make it a "U”set up. First side, at 90 degree, is Stage 2+D50+Nord Leaf 2X, on the right, 90 degree, I said it, C2 Nord+P12+P08/tetra (to get 12 voices) and I found a stand to put again on the right side, at a 90 degree angle, to put the P10 keyboards. It works, I have a little room to get into the U, sliding myself between the drums and the P10. The bassist still has room behind me. I will have to do some replugging with the mixers and midi with the Roland A880 though. See attachments.
The new stand was the one I was using when I had only C2+P08, Or when I play B3 style only and needs to bring some synths sound with it (mainly Rock ala Santana)
Well, it's just but it fits perfectly and reaching it is easy with the rotating Chair.
Thanks again
