Title: Factory Preset Specs
Post by: RGB on January 11, 2022, 12:27:28 PM
First of several dumb questions I'm going to fearlessly post. I'm a bit of a noob and I find that I learn a lot by recreating presets. Some of the factory presets on my Take 5 are intriguing, but often I can't tell what is imparting the characteristics just by scrolling through the modulation matrix, etc. Have Sequential or any Take 5 users spelled out the specs for each of the factory presets somewhere? Like a listing of the modulation sources, destinations, values, plus the waveform for each osc, the cutoff setting, the FX settings, etc.? If so, can you point me to those resources?  Thanks!

You have access to all this info on the synth itself - move a parameter dial until you see a red dot appear in the 7-segment patch number display LCD; the knob position now matches that of the current preset. Do this for all knobs and voilá!

Well color me shocked, I did not know about the red dot feature! Thanks Quatschmacher. It definitely helps me understand the preset specs. I'd still like to see something that lets me start with an init patch and dial in a clone of a factory preset, either based on a pdf or a video. There are YouTube vids galore like this for my Korg Minilogue, but only a couple for the Take 5 at this point. Yes, I know that the joy is in the tweaking, but there are certain modulators on the Take 5 that are terra incognita for me (e.g., note number, voice spread) and I'd like to learn how to use them to max effect. I welcome any other suggestions. Thanks.

You’re welcome.

Note number is just a value based on the MIDI note number of the keyboard. The higher up the keyboard you play, the greater the modulation depth when using that source. (It’s worth noting that some synths scale from a central note (bipolar) whereas other scale only positively from the lowest note (unipolar); I’m not sure which format the Take 5 uses. So if you mapped Note Number to LFO frequency then the LFO would get faster the higher up the keyboard you played.

Voice Spread uses a a different fixed value depending on which voice is bringing triggered. For example, if you mapped voice spread to LFO frequency, then each voice would make the LFO run at a different speed. Increasing the depth in the mod matrix would cause the speed differences to be greater from note to note.

Very cool, thanks again Quatschmacher. I'm more familiar with "note number" referred to as "key tracking," but it seems like the same idea. Much appreciated.

I have had this (the red dot appearing for a veeery short time when I was *absolutely* exactly on the value), but for whatever reason it doesn't seem to appear anymore – neither for my own nor for the factory presets.

Is there a “relative”/“scaled” pot mode on the Take 5 and is it active? If so, this could be why. Try setting to “absolute”/“jump” or to “pass thru”/“catch” and seeing if that helps.

Thanks for the RED DOT knowledge - I was wondering if there was something like I see on my Novation Peak and voila
Quatschmacher tell me :-)
