Title: Pro 3 filter LED flashing - normal?
Post by: mcallon on June 04, 2021, 12:24:31 AM
Hi all,

My Pro 3 SE arrived yesterday and I've noticed strange behaviour with the filter LED's. Whichever filter type is selected is lit (as expected) but at seemingly random intervals one of the un-selected LED's flashes very quickly on and off. It mostly happens when turning the cutoff knob, but it happens sometimes without touching anything. It seems like a 'glitch' to me - should I send the unit back for a replacement? (I really don't want to as it's now on a 5 week backorder!)

Many thanks,

Mike

Same thing with mine. Apparently some main boards were made with an incorrect component. Sequential can send a replacement main board, installation of which takes about 30 minutes with a screwdriver and a wrench. After that, no extra lights.

They can also do the replacement for you. You should email support for options.

Many thanks for the quick reply  :D

I'll contact support and figure out what the best option is.

Cheers,

Mike

The same here: I gave my new Pro 3 back to the dealer because of weird USB problems. In exchange (of course I’ve paid the difference) I ordered a Pro 3 SE and got serial no. 01080 today that also showed this flickering filter LED problem.
This unit is already on the way back and the shop promised me to check the next device before sending it to me. Hopefully this third one will be fine.
There are no costs for me but it’s annoying to have paid quite a lot of Euros and to have to wait for 2 weeks and 3 units to get a working one…

It’s a bit a shame that Sequential didn’t organize some kind of systematic "recall".

Yeah, mine is the same and needs the board replacing, bit of a shame as I've hardly used it.

I just returned the third faulty (new!) PRO3 to the dealer because of this and also other problems, I won't be buying a new one anytime soon either. It was probably not meant to be.

Similar problem for me - first unit delivered had the flickering filter LED issue, and then the same with the next unit sent to me.  Through the retailer (Andertons in UK) Sequential asked me to do the following test:

Disconnect everything except power and headphones / Load any factory patch and turn the following parameters to max - tuned feedback amount & tuning, filter amp amount, amp amount / Create a basic patch by holding Transpose Up + Down + Latch, note the sound of the basic patch (you can record a video/audio clip for reference) / Leave the synth on for 10-20 minutes and see if the sounds change when you come back to it.

I did all this and the sound did change.  Returned it to Andertons for repair.

I got it back really quickly, but the blinking issue is still there.  I also did the test again with the same results.

Sadly, I've now got to the point where its refund time.

I would advise you contact Sequential support directly. In my case they sent out a new main board which was easy to fit and solved the issue. You'll need to pay a deposit which is refunded when you return the original board (they'll pay postage).

Refund is an option of course...but you'll miss out on a superb Synth. I'm really glad I persevered with mine. I'm sure I haven't scratched the surface on what this beast can do ;D

Pro 3 SE delivered this afternoon. Serial 1018. Same issue. I’ve emailed Sequential support.

Yep, the well known issue, unfortunately.
But obviously the units that are produced at the moment are working fine. In the meantime I got my 4th PRO 3 SE with a serial number over 1150 and it runs flawlessly so far.

Good luck with solving the problem very soon!

I contacted support who were super helpful. I got a new board, replaced it myself and everything is working great now.  :)

I just opened my Pro 3 SE today (it’s sadly been sealed in the box since I got it back in January!) and sadly it has this flickering light problem too. I’ve emailed support…
