Title: Bin file vs syx file
Post by: thirteen_engines on March 31, 2021, 05:15:18 PM
Hi folks. I'm about to become a Prophet X'er like all of you. Hopefully by next week sometime I'll have it in my studio.

The first thing that I will want to check is the firmware version. If necessary, I'll update it to the latest but ... I note that in the sticky thread at the top of the list there is a bin file and a syx file. What is the difference between them?

Cheers,

Keith

The .bin file is what is typically used for the Prophet X/XL firmware upgrade. The .syx SysEx file is only used if something goes wrong when needing to use bootloader mode, as described in the second note of that thread. So, keep both around but you'll probably only need to use the .bin file.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks. That makes sense.
