Title: Unison seems hit and miss
Post by: generalkustard on March 24, 2021, 04:54:24 AM
I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding something about way the unison should function on the OB3 but it doesn't behave the way I expect it to. For example, I make a simple 2 square wave oscillator slightly detuned bass sound, with pan spread it is jumping from left to right as expected, press the unison button and the sound becomes centered but the detune knob and pan spread make no difference to the sound whatsoever. Some of the preset sounds respond to the detune button in unison mode and some don't (compare preset #999 with #998 for instance) but I can't work out why. Is it possible to assign less than 6 voices to unison because many patches in unison mode sound like they don't have 6 oscillators going, and if that's the case, how do you assign less than 6 voices to unison? Any ideas?  ???

If you hold the Unison button you can select the number of voices using the Bank and Tens (decrement and increment) buttons. Pan spread doesn't seem to have any affect with only one voice in unison, but as you add more voices its becomes more pronounced.

Thank you. I've only been in possession of the OB-6 for 1 week and this is my first analog synth. I love this synth to bits.

In addition

In addition to this should be said that in Unison mode every odd number of voices is automatically centered and therefore not effected by Panspread. Try out any even numbers of voices to get a nice panspread stereo picture function.
