Title: FREE Wavetable generator for Pro 3
Post by: lvbeethoven on December 24, 2020, 09:23:22 PM
Wavetable free plugins - Vital

Hi,

I discovered the “vitale” plugins: https://vital.audio it is very similar to xfer serum, with the only difference that it is free (there is a free version).

So this plugin can be useful for generating wave cycles and then importing them into the Pro 3.

Give it a try, because I haven't had a chance to use it yet.

 :)

I didn't find it a very good fit for the Pro 3 for generating wavetables. As a soft synth, it has some interesting sounds.

Either way, it's free;)

I haven't tried it, but I think it has a "unison" section with some interesting effects on it.

To see it is certainly possible to try to create tables from the unison options of VITAL and then import them into the SERUM and end up in the PRO 3.

I've spent quite a bit of time with Vital, and the wavetable editing tools are nowhere near the level of Serum. It's not even the same universe, in terms of flexibility. I bought Serum this week, and I'm impressed with it. Safe to say that it'll be the framework for my Pro 3 wavetable work.

I wrote software to convert exported Serum wavetables directly to Pro 3 system exclusive files. My software automatically downsamples the Serum PCM, and automatically reduces or expands the number of waveforms to 16. Right now, it's command-line software, but I'll have a web interface by the end of the week. My goal is to learn about Web MIDI, so that users of my system can upload a Serum wavetable and dump the sysex directly to the Pro 3, without needing any other software or processing.

I might like Vital more than I like Serum.

Both of them play nicely with WAV2Pro3, which is to say that you can simply upload a file generated by either of them to convert to a Pro 3 wavetable.

One major difference is that Serum divides a waveform into up to 256 frames during editing, while Vital doesn't divide the waveform up until it's exported as a .wav file. But you can get Vital to behave like Serum by setting the Blend Style to "None."

Serum has more tools for directly constructing individual waveforms, and allows you to edit waveforms no matter the source, while Vital doesn't allow you to directly edit waveforms imported from .wav files.

It's actually a really hard choice. Vital certainly has a price advantage, with a free option available. But either one will give you a lot of tools for building Pro 3 wavetables.
