Title: Prophet XL as a midi keyboard
Post by: IslandGhost on October 18, 2020, 09:11:52 AM
I’d appreciate knowing people’s experience of using the XL as a midi keyboard, specifically when used with piano sample libraries (and similar libraries that allow expressive playing).  I was planning on getting a Prophet X at some point in the future, but wondered if the XL would have the dual benefit of being usable as a midi controller as well.

I appreciate that the XL does not have a fully-weighted keyboard, so I’d assume it does not have the feel of an authentic piano keyboard.

There are no music stores near me that would stock an XL so I am not in the position of getting hands-on with one.

You may find this thread helpful.  https://forum.sequential.com/index.php/topic,3036.0.html
Discussion of the keybed begins in earnest on page 2.

If you are a good keyboard player and this is a hobby, no problem, you will be able to adjust to the keybed. Personally, I would not base a decision to purchase a Prophet X / XL as a controller for piano samples.

Thanks For the link.  Some useful information here.  I think I’ll go for the standard ‘X’ model when I get mine from what I’ve read.
