Title: Stoked 2 have mah Prophet 12 back from service
Post by: S Y Z Y G Y X on July 23, 2020, 09:39:32 PM
What an killer synth, was out for just under a month sent the main voice board to Sequential for repair to get rid of this ringing artifact in the sound.  It’s back and properly fixed, thank you Andy 🥰.  I’ve had many DSI/Sequential boards and the 12 is my favorite so far.  It can be mellow spacey ambient and total aggressive EBM riffing, crazy effects.  I have a Pro 3 and it compliments the 12 well but I think I’ll be purchasing a Prophet 6 to round out the full poly analogue side of things in my studio.

I can make a big purchase at Sweetwater tomorrow for it and a bunch of other gear, or I can wait a few weeks to see what this new Sequential release will be....really my question is.....what do y’all suspect this next Sequential release to be?

Hmmmm 🧐

If I had to bet, I'd wager it might be a successor to the P12 that upgrades it similar to the way P'08 was upgraded to Rev2.  Could also be a P6 successor with more voices, FX etc?

For what it’s worth, I’ve noticed that a lot of dealers seem to be out of stock of the P12 module these days. Could simply be a COVID issue; could be stock running low ahead of a replacement/refresh.

I’m holding off on my potential P12 purchase juuuuuuuust in case.

I got serious ants in the pants to buy this next load of gear as I need to add a UAD Octo to my Apollo and I’m thinking of getting the Prophet 6 but maybe I should hold off until Sequential announces their next product, which I really wish they’d just get on with it and announce it so I can make this next purchase!

Glad it worked out for you syzygyx.   DSI/Sequential  doesn't give much of a sneek peak.  Of course you can check out the "next new instrument" part of this forum for peoples best guesses.    I keep hearing August- which I assume coincides w a music product show.

Thanks Soundquest!  I knew I was hearing something “off” in my P12’s sound a month ago.  The funny thing is I had my P12 for maybe 2 or 3 weeks before I actually noticed the artifact but once I noticed it, it became all I could hear it was terrible!  But yeah the P12 is my perfect synth I love how sharp and aggressive it can be.

Very curious what this next instrument will be.

Hi Mr. Smith, yes the artifact that i noticed became present to my ears especially when I closed the filter on any sound to make bass sounds, even with the low pass filter closed it would not filter out this very high pitched almost ringy type sound.  To get rid of the artifact I had to put an EQ in the instrument track in my DAW and close a high shelf EQ down to about 9-10khz and that would get rid of the artifact but that also kills any air in the sound so that completely is unacceptable and sucks!

I posted a sound example in another thread here in the Prophet 12 forum, check the sound examples out I posted in the other thread and let me know if it’s the same sounding artifact you’re experiencing.

I just had to take out the main voice board and ship it to Sequential for repair, they were great, had it back to me in less than a month!  Completely fixed it.

Thats just like mine, i was told on forums its just the way it is and firmware update slightly reduced it, would be amazing if it could be fixed, thankyou!

P.S i highly recommend the Prophet 6, beautiful sounding synth

Yeah no way, if that was just the way it is, and that sound was inherent of the prophet 12, no one would own a single prophet 12.  Create a support ticket with Sequential and récord a few audio examples and let them know your current OS.
