Title: Envelope Attack Not Quite Right
Post by: the Fixer on July 05, 2020, 02:53:31 PM
Has anyone else noticed that the attack portion of the amp envelope maxes out the amp, way before the end of the attack portion is done?  It will quickly go to the max volume and stay there till the attack finally completes, and then continue on with the decay part of the envelope.  Anyone? Anyone?

By the way this machine is BAD ASS!!!

The attack stage contour is logarithmic.   Maybe more pronounced than other synths you've used...  On the plus side, you get very snappy attacks for tight bass/lead/pluck/percussive sound design, while at the other end, longer attack sounds / strings / pad type of sounds may rise in amplitude to quickly for you liking, with a longer taper out until decay.

I documented the Pro3 attack contour here:   (with some info about recursive modulation, which might be of interest if you wanna change the contour with modulation)

Right Right, I understand all that, but it seems they put a bit too much log in the arithmic than they should have. Maybe they should include a linear/adjustable logarithmic option. Surely no one would object to that. ;)

Yeah, adjustable ADR contours are really awesome for sound design... I'm not sure if Seq has done that in any of their instruments?  Would be a good feature request! - or at least a good area for development into new products.    I really like how the Deepmind has adjustable ADR curves - They can go from convex -> linear -> concave... very useful option... I use it all the time.  The recursive modulation on Pro3 can get you partially there, but it is definitely more limited in shaping, and a bit of a pain to dial in with good results.

convex -> linear -> concave, I like how you think, I second that!

I just bought a pro 3 as my first hardware analog synth, I've put off getting one for too long... I personally think ability to alter envelope shape would be one of the most exciting things I would like to see a future update make, I think it would allow lots of fine detail and tuning in the character of patches...

Love the synth and I'm so happy I was able to get consumer credit to afford one lol. Keep up your work guys

Good choice on your first analog synth!!!

Can’t this be done using the mod matrix? I’m not at home so can’t try.
