Title: Volume knob seems to have a hair trigger point
Post by: St8kout on December 22, 2019, 01:08:31 PM
Just got the OB-6 last week and it sounds great.

I do have one complaint, and it's the volume knob. It's a bit of a pain trying to find the right volume as it only takes an extremely tiny movement of the knob to go from soft to loud. I ended up buying a Boss volume/expression pedal making it SO much easier to control the volume. Some patches are way too loud when you switch to them so I was having to keep one hand on the volume control every time I tried out a new patch.

I don't know if it's the mechanical control itself or the firmware, but it could really stand to operate more smoothly. It's not scratchy like an old worn out control, it just changes volume too rapidly for such small movements of it.

I rarely use the main volume knob...I leave it set to about 3 o'clock (this provides a reasonable level generally for my mixer) and always adjust the <PRGM VOL> for listening level. This way I'm never surprised by 'hot' patches...they are all within a reasonable range.

I tried that too beforehand, but it didn't seem to prevent volume differences between patches. But it doesn't matter now that I added the foot pedal.

Btw, the Boss pedal works very well with the OB-6. Plugging in through the TRS volume jack with a stereo cable, it allows you to decrease the volume yet let the effects still ring out a bit, giving a nice after effect. The other way to use it is between the output jacks of the OB-6 and your amp/mixer. This of course stops all sound.

I haven't tried using in the Filter jack yet, as I'm always using it for volume control.
