Title: Kinda dumb question - what determines which preset the P12 boots on?

I have two DSI synths and I cannot figure out how it determines which preset to boot on because it sure as heck isn't the last one I used or the last one I saved.  Is there a way to make it boot on a certain patch?

Not dumb at all.
If you wish the Prophet 12 to boot up onto a certain program, select the program and then press the global key twice. :)
