Title: Rev2 to Pro One
Post by: Bumpercar2044 on May 26, 2019, 08:12:00 PM
I might be trading in my korg polysix (not the most versatile synth but i still love mine) tomorrow for a p8 rev2.  The keys on my pro one are shot, I need good keys and even more so on a mono.  So my plan was to trade in the polysix and connect the rev2 to the pro one via CV.  Do I need a midi to CV converter?  What is the best way to connect the two?

The Rev 2 will not have the CV connections to go directly to the Pro One.  Here is one CV-MIDI converter claiming to help the Pro One.  Don't know anything about the company.  However, the website appears to have some pretty good information about what you need to do the conversion.

As previously stated, the REV 2 does not have CV out, so you'll need either an external MIDI to CV converter a conversion unit in the Pro One. I don't know anything about the Kenton unit, but it is certainly an option. I used a unit from http://www.musictechnologiesgroup.com/ which replaced the CPU. I like that it included some expansions onto the sequencer and it's install is pretty straightforward so long as you aren't afraid of soldering on the Pro One's board. Once in it works great.

The keyboard in my Pro One was dead (one of the membrane types). Found this guy on the web who sells a complete Fatar replacement keyboard. It was pretty much plug and play (I think you have to add a couple of mounting holes to the bottom of the case): https://techsmechsvintagesynth.com/home/tm-2-pro-one-keyboard-replacement-kit.html

Pretty much transformed my Pro One. Great action and consistent note triggering! That said, if your Pro One has the earlier J-wire keybed it can (and should) be fixed. The later membrane ones are hopeless once the contactors die and can be tossed.

Good luck!

Hi I am new to this site and still learning it.  I would be good with an external converter.  And my keyboard is J-Wire.  The high B flat is the worst.  The high E is bad as well.  And lastly the F# just to the right of dead center sticks about 50 percent of the time.  I still play it but I have to pull up the stuck keys a lot.  I ended up getting the rev2 so I have midi now, but would rather fix the j wire but I don’t know how.

I can certainly vouch for Kenton as a company.  I've bought a few boxes from them over the years.  My Juno 60 is hooked up via their Pro DCB box and it works perfectly.  Built like a tank too.
