Title: Removing sample pack from instrument.
Post by: normanion on May 04, 2019, 06:45:59 AM
Hello there,

I will make some mess with random samples in my unit. Also: I did small mess already with experimenting, where to put samples, so my user samples are in slot three. I would like to be able to clean that mess. Is there any way to remove single, multiple or all user samples from Prophet X, without removing hard drive and purging its content? Furthermore: can I do the same also with expansions bought from 8DIO and loaded into my unit? I much more prefer content made by Lady Gaya and don't want Prophet 5 samples anymore.

Just in case: used local search, google search (with "site:sequential.com" and without) and either I choose words poorly or there is no answer to this question in the whole internet. "Remove" and "Delete" in latest manual also don't show any answers to my question.

Best Regards,
Norman

While there's no way I'm aware of to delete individual instruments, you can delete a complete bank of instrument samples.  Press Global, scroll down to 32. Manage Samples and select it.  You'll see a list of all banks with a summary of their size, and can delete any complete banks to free up space.

Thank you, Lady Gaia. I am shocked and ashamed that I have not thought of that simple solution.

P.S. Also: Sorry, Lady Gaia, for misspelling your nick name. It was unintentional.

Admittedly "Manage Samples" isn't the most self-explanatory name for a screen that can only delete samples.  Presumably it has been left open-ended in case there are future enhancements Sequential decides to make?

... and no worries about the misspelling!  The forum is a pretty informal, relaxed space.

So there's no way to remove specific samples from a bank?

That's a pretty severe restriction if you can only delete everything in a bank. Those few user banks are looking very restricted right now.

I compare the sample handling on the PX to my Nord keyboards and it's pretty poor. The free Clavia application can transfer samples via USB, you can delete individual samples and there's a separate free editor for creating compatible instruments from your own samples.

I do like the Prophet X a lot, but DS need to address this limitation pretty sharpish.

Not currently.  If there was sufficient demand I suspect Sequential could add something along those lines, but as always it’s a time and cost trade-off against other opportunities.  Right now the workaround is to either delete the whole bank and reload, or load something new on top of the instruments you’re looking to replace (individual instruments will be overwritten by newly loaded instruments when they share the same index #, bank, and category.)

I guess you could produce an “empty” instrument that could overwrite anything desired, though that’s a somewhat clunky solution.  I suspect the thinking was that with 50GB of space available you wouldn’t need to be as obsessive about removing content.

As for creating your own instruments?  There’s the official utility and also my alternative, PXToolkit, both of which are free.

I suspected as much LG.

I've not managed to get the 8DIO working reliably—or yours at all yet.

The former crashes on the Preferences and thus plays loudly through the Mac speaker—I assume there is an audio section there!

I appreciate the time you've put in, but as I said compared to Clavia's efforts (there's also a library in the sample upload software) both are pretty primitive software

Not a criticism of your work at all—I know one can only work with what you've got and I'm impressed you have done this, so please don't take it a as a criticism.

You shouldn't have to though. Sampling really feels like a last-minute afterthought on the PX. I expected more from DSI/Sequential.

EDIT: Apparently the Preferences do not work—they crash the program but they left the menu in!
