Title: Latest SoundTower Editor 1.6.1
Post by: creativespiral on February 14, 2019, 11:02:08 PM
For anyone using SoundTower Rev2 Editor, I highly recommend updating to the latest version: 1.6.1

Over the past week, I sent a list of misc bugs and improvements, and Mark fixed 'em all.  Thanks Mark!!

Fixes to:
- phantom bank issues
- gated and poly sequence editing
- template saving
- stack/split change saving
- bank view improvements and gated seq indicators
- some interface fixes (clk sync, lpf env)
- additional globals settings

The Editor is really working great now.

Download is here:

You already downloaded the 1.6.1 update? Because on their site I see the update but can't donwload it, it seems buggy for the moment

Update: Now it's good, bug was on my side  ;D

Oh, and in BANKS view, if you HOLD DOWN SHIFT and DRAG a preset, you can hot swap with another preset location...  they had a previous implementation that was buggy... but it works well now ... you just have to know to hold shift.

Thanks for the info about the updated editor :)

How do one get the latest REV 2 PlugS 1.4.0 update . There seems only to be a link to a demo. I've written to support several times but haven't got an answer. Is the demo a full version if i have a license?

For Rev2 PlugSE, they send an email when you purchase, with a link ... you have to find that original email follow the link in it, with your un/pw.  It would be more convenient if you can download the vst like the editor.

FYI:  They are currently working on bug fixes for the PlugSE vst... I sent a list of issues for that as well.   Will probably have an updated version in coming days.

Didn't get that I should go through that old email to get an update. Found it now and updated. Seems that I missed out a couple updates because of this. It could have been described a bit better on their homepage. Well all good now :)

thanks for this ... but on my system (Mac) you need to hold shift and option to swap presets

Hi husker. Thank you for your help. I am struggling to set up the plug se. First I am not sure about the different midi thru settings in the plugin. I have them turned off and the rev2 is set to local on. I can turn the knobs on the Rev 2 and the corresponding knobs in the plugin move and sound is changing like it should. Plugin is loaded to a rack instrument. I am able to record midi to the instrument track but during playback noting is sent to the rev2 and it stays quiet. I also had multiple freezes in cubase (10.0.15 Pro) caused by the PlugSE. Can you tell me your settings in the plugin and on the Rev 2 and how you set it up on Cubase? Thank you in advance!

I use Ableton, but one of the things that got me hung up in setting up PlugSE is the fact that I had to go into my Ableton Preferences -> MIDI Settings, and disable all connections to Rev2 from Ableton... ie:  disable Track, Sync, Control for both MIDI input and output.   After disabling the hosts connection to the Rev2, then you can bring up PlugSE on a track and properly connect.  Note:  I'm using USB midi... not sure if its different using 5-pin din... but with USB MIDI, only one "program" can connect with the Rev2 at a time.

As far as the MIDI settings in PlugSE, select the Rev for input/output, leave controller unselected, and I believe I have the first three boxes checked on the top right.   And MIDI clock checked.

On the Rev2, make sure that in Globals, you are sending/receiving via the right ports (ie:  USB) and that MIDI Param send/receive is set to NRPN.

Not sure if the same is true in Cubase...

Sure.  I travel for work, so when I get home, I'll take a look.  Probably this weekend sometime.   First, I have no idea what the midi thru settings are either, I just played around with them.  Not having any documentation on the product really irritates me.  I remember it took me a bit to get it to work.  Do you also have the Rev2 set up as an external instrument?  Are you using USB or a Midi box?

Thanks to both of you! I have the Rev 2 connected via USB, but not as an external instrument in Cubase. I'll give your suggestions a try and check back with you.

Gerno - these are my settings:
PluginSE is set to USB  (I also have it setup as an external instrument, and I use a Motu box for that)
Rev 2 is Local On
On the Midi Setup page, the middle two options are checked (Thru - Midi In Port > Host and Thru -Host > Midi Out Port)
I CAN record, and hear back the recording - however, I MUST have the input gain up on those on the Rev2 channels of my Focusrite interface (which is different from an external instrument, when I have the input to zero)

Hope that helps in someway.  I don't have any crashes on Cubase - I'm running 10.0.15 Pro on Windows 10 1809

I think it's working now. Thank you both for your great help! BTW there is a new version available. I reported an issue with the bbd delay which is sorted out in the new version.

I sent SoundTower and email about the Midi Options:  This is what they said.

Control Program Change with Automation
enable - any Bank/Program changes will be recorded on an automation track
disable - Bank/Program change will be done via MIDI Bank/Program change commands

Other settings:

These options are provided in order to avoid MIDI loops, especially in DAW’s like Logic where you can have multiple inputs.

THRU: MIDI In Port -> Host
enable - Program changes and Continuous Controller data will be passed over through the PlugSE to the host.

THRU: Host -> MIDI OUT port
enable - Program changes and Continuous Controller data will be passed over through the PlugSE to the instrument.

THRU: Host -> Host PlugSE Monitoring
mainly for VST, could create MIDI loop in Logic, should be always disabled with AU

For some or another reason, Soundtower does not receive anything from my rev2. So, I can change parameters on my rev2 from soundtower, I can also select user programs. However, Soundtower does not receive knob turns, nor does it receive my program names, let alone the settings belonging to these programs.

I am connected over usb and have selected rev2 for midi in and out ports and for midi in keyboard controller. I would love to learn what I am doing wrong.

Mine doesn't either. I'm not sure if it is supposed to or not.

In the Rev2 Globals Settings:
MIDI Sysex Enable: ON
MIDI Sysex Cable: USB
MIDI Out: USB
MIDI Controller Enable: ON
MIDI Parameter Send: NRPN
MIDI Parameter Receive: NRPN

Soundtower Editor > MIDI > Midi Setup:
Make sure you have Rev2 selected for both MIDI IN and MIDI OUT ports in.

Thanks, Creativespiral. I just connected my Rev2 again to go and see whether I have different settings than you described. Then, I found that Soundtower was already receiving from Rev2 as it should. So, something happened between 1) closing soundtower, 2) turning Rev2 off, 3) turn of computer (3b going to bed, maybe that was crucial :)) 4) turn computer on, 5) turn Rev2 on 6) start Soundtower, that made it work. If I figure out what made it work, I will write an update.

Thank you - I had one setting wrong.  I use the Rev as an external instrument in Cubase, which uses the Midi connections.  As such, I have the Rev 2 editor set for USB - I had my Midi Out set to Midi (required for the external instrument in Cubase), so I set it to Midi + USB, and now it sends to the Rev 2 editor.

Thank you again.
