Title: Pro 2 Linear frequency modulation FM
Post by: Quatschmacher on July 03, 2018, 04:03:54 PM
Could someone from DSI please let us know whether linear FM will be (or even can be) made available in the Pro 2?

Thank you.

Definitely - please DSI we're a patient bunch but dearly want linear FM. It makes endless sense for this board!

Some extra waveforms would be great too, seriously great.  :)

Woohoo! The just-released OS update includes linear FM! I think it’s the right time for me to buy this synth now!

DEMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOS!!!

Indeed. I’ve been checking YouTube to see if anyone has uploaded any.

I made a little (!) one here.
comparing the exp. FM with the lin. FM on a simple sequence with 3 OSC.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1Cwbu8-2go&t=7s

Mod.Wheel: OSC1 FM Amount
Slider1: Pushing OSC1 FM Amount further
Slider2: OSC2 FM Amount

very musical use of FM with the linear mode.
I wonder why a OSC FM Setting of 255 is not the max?
You can push this by adding modsources to it (Slider or DC pushes the FM amount further)
Pro: very exact and small fm amount changes possible
con:no way to sweep the FM from min to max with on modulation.

Time to update the Synth Comparison Chart  :)

Thanks for the demo. It was really the wrong time to go on holliday. Now I will just be waiting to get home and play with it.

Thanks ever so much for this. It sounds sweet.

Do you think the FM amount restriction is a bug? If so, mention it on the bug thread.

Linear FM is really changing the sonic and musical capabilities of this synth!
We are really into modular capabilities here, and with the sequencing too it’s pretty damn imressive.

Thank you so much for the linear FM :D

DSI really impressed me here! I must admit I was sceptical about further updates, so thank you.

Thank you DSI! The linear FM sounds good.

Its been a while since I used the awesome linear FM, I actually forgot how to access it, I see the Exp FM and the AM, but not the Lin.

Linear FM was only recently added in the Beta Main OS which can be found here https://forum.sequential.com/index.php/topic,1223.0.html
You need to be logged in to access the file at the bottom of page.

BETA Main OS – Feature: Linear FM mode: Toggle between Exponential/Linear FM in 4th soft tab of Oscillator screen

In the Pro2 OS 1.4 addendum it is written that one can change the default target oscillator of FM by using the modulation matrix.
What is then the SOURCE parameter to use?
What is then the DESTINATION parameter to use?

Thank you!

If you wanted to frequency modulate oscillator 2 with oscillator 4 then you would route “Osc 4 freq” to “Osc 2 freq”.

OK. Thank you!
Then my next question is can I route Osc 4 freq to Osc 4 freq to have feedback as on some DX7 algorithm (often operator 6 but it could be any of the operators)

Sorry, I have not yet installed OS1.4 to try by myself   :-[

I’m not sure about that I never tried (and I no longer own a Pro 2 as I returned it).
