Title: Is my prophet broken ?
Post by: Pidcin on December 17, 2017, 02:07:20 PM
When you smack a key hard should it not produce a sound ? It seems I can press into them with the same pressure but I can’t play them with that pressure . Sometimes I’ll be playing a bass line and my thumb will accent a note and it won’t produce a sound ...

Any help would be appreciated

I would suggest starting out with making sure you run the most recent firmware, that the program is not configured in ways that prevent some voices from being played, that velocity curves are set up right and that the instrument is calibrated properly. Also, maybe have an extra look at the Key mode parameter.

Yes yes! I checked the key mode in case my fingers were sloppy or something , wasn’t it . But I checked out the global velocity and it was set to 3! Not sure how that happened ! But I turned it up to max and it’s perfectly okay.

I wish someone can delete this post , it’s embaressing!

No, it’s a good learning point for others, we’ve all been there I’m sure!

True enough.

If anyone are playing their keyboards and for some reason when you hit the key and it doesn’t make sound , Here are some things to check before you make an embarrassing post, thinking your prophet is broken

1 global setting velocity - make sure it’s adjusted to the max OR to your liking

2. Keymode - you may think you’re not getting sound but it may simply be due to keymode configuration so check keymode to ensure which notes get priority

3. Firmware upgrades or not realizing you’re playing more than 6 notes . Would personally check this last

4. Program you’ve designed or playing hasn’t been set up in a way to have this result . Basically double check on and blank preset

Another good check to make is to connect the instrument to a MIDI monitoring program to see what MIDI data are being sent. Of cause global settings can affect what MIDI data are being sent and on which of the ports. Its quite a lovely complex machine! ;)
