Title: Question regarding Hack Behaviour
Post by: onas on July 28, 2017, 09:58:11 AM
New to the forum, have my prophet 12 since over a year now and really love it. Basically, the only thing I use  :D

However one thing I am wondering for a while is the "Hack" behaviour, first I thought it was a bug but I kind of got used to it.

What I mean is that when you increment it, at least for me in the range from 0 - 7 it is pretty much inaudible and then at 8 it suddenly jumps in quite abruptly. Do other P12 users here have the same behaviour or any insight why the value change from 7-8 does so drastic changes?

Yes, this is normal. I suggest looking at the waveform and/or spectrum in an oscilloscope/spectrum analyzer in your daw to see how it behaves.

Your machine is functioning properly. Hack is a straight up bit-hack. Because all we're doing is chopping off bits and there aren't that many to begin with, each stage of the bit reduction is assigned to a small range of values. We opted for this implementation over confining all of the bit reduction to the first few values so you can get a more "natural" knob sweep effect.
