Title: Release date?
Post by: thedommer on February 28, 2017, 09:35:10 AM
It's been a while since announcement so I am wondering if the team is close to locking down a ship date. From what I remember it should be end of March, but I know that things change and manufacturing can have massive delays (or the opposite). Any update?

Thomann says they will get shipped to them on 17th of April in Germany at the moment... don't know how reliable that information is...

On Monday, DSI support told me: "We hope to be shipping the Rev2 in late April through there is not a hard date set just yet."

I got too excited and preordered this beast...  The current ship by date is scheduled for 3/20.

DSI has said they're aiming for a May release.

I just got off the phone with retail store and confirmed.  The manufacturer has pushed the ship date back to May 31st!  :'(

Ack! That's too bad. I've sold some gear and have already preordered. The spot where it goes is cleared and waiting.

Does anyone have an update for the REV2 ship date?  I know Dave Smith said it will be shipping in roughly "a couple of months" and "End of March" at NAMM (in January).

The retailer is now saying the manufacturer ship date is June 7th.

Who knows, though hope it's soon......it's costing me a fortune, I have had to buy a pro 2 in order to keep myself occupied.

The place I pre-ordered it from have a date of 31st May, which I've seen on other shop sites.

Looks like patches are still being made from the patch designers out in the world. They get a week/10 days ish to develop these patches, so perhaps end of may/June looks like a winner?
DSI can always surprise us (i remember getting the ob6 on launch day here in LA in March last year--that was a bit earlier than I expected).

I would happily wait an extra 10 days to get some of Sacred Synthesis' patches on mine.

DSI just posted that the REV2 is shipping. First units just left SF.

I remember when i saw the ob6 post that they were shipping. GC here in LA was the first to get them ( i have serial #100) not long after that post, so I expect to have my REV2 within a week!

I pre-ordered mine right after the announcement... but then switched my ordered to a different company (Sweetwater) a couple months ago. Sweetwater told me yesterday that they are expecting to get their first 30 by the end of May. ...Unfortunately, I am not among the first 30 pre-ordered there, and so I may have to wait until mid-July.  :'(

maybe check with some west coast dealers who might have some extra stock -- closer to san fran the sooner they'll probably have them?

world of stereo really came through for me fairly last minute when i decided to change my order from an 8-voice to a 16-voice and got a sick deal on it on top, plus free shipping.

disclaimer: i have no idea, just a suggestion

The West Coast dealer tip is 100% correct. My 16 voice Rev2 was shipped yesterday and I know that shop has a few more Rev2's available. Call and talk to Steve at ROBOTSPEAk or email him and tell him Trent sent you. Steve was great to do business with and runs an impressive shop (I get nothing from the reference other than I feel a bit obligated to support local shops that are great to work with)! -- so you know, you will pay the full list price and it's worth every penny!

Same here (Germany). My dealer just postponed the shipping date from June 6th to June 23rd recently. I still hope it's just something about the first batch being sold out or something, but I guess I just have to be patient until the end of June. It's alright. Really looking forward to the REV2. After a few used older synths from ebay and some VSTis it is going to be my first "big" synth and first DSI ever. Finger's crossed for some early delivery!  :D

I can tell you this from the ten minutes I did spend with it, It was quite a nice sound. Sadly I don't have my original P08 to compare it to. BUT it compared to my DeepMind 12, the Rev2 just felt a lot more upfront. I'm going to try and livestream and take any questions/turn whatever someone would like, or just record some clips.

That would be great if you could. Let me know whan you start / post, please take into account that I am in CEST zone (Netherlands).

For me the choice was between the DM12 and the Rev 2. I am convinced now the Rev 2 will be the right choice (I have one on order), even if is just because of both sequencers. Also my own son and two shops in two countries discouraged me to buy the DM12. But hearing what Sacred Synthesis is capable of creating with the Prophet 8, I have no doubts anymore about the Rev 2.

Got mine coming from Kraft this upcoming Tuesday. This will be my first synth in about a decade. Unfortunately I sold my KRK monitor way back and just spent all my cash on the Rev2. Question, can I get away with using a Harman/Kardon computer speaker/sub with 1/4" adapter? I mean, I don't see why not... The KRK is 25 watts and the Harman/Kardon is 20 watts.

Congrats on your new synth! I would think that if your computer speaker has a line in, and you have the appropriate adapter, it should work fine. May have to keep your master volume down a bit on the synth, though.

Really fantastic jtweito thank you! Don't worry about playing style, just have fun with the instrument ;-).

As I am not personally familiar with the original Prophet 8, I'd love to hear the sequencers in action and of course the effects. It would be great if you could demo a basic patch with that.

Thanks! I'll try and make a quick video with the effects and the sequenecer. If you haven't seen Once Upon A Synths effect video, it's awesome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0lpD7oEwc4

Most likely I'll do a video with just the INIT Patch and do that, just so everything is raw.

Great, whenever I am in your neighbourhood I buy you a pint or equivalent ;-).  I am eagerly searching Google every day for news on the Prophet Rev 2. I found a little bit of the Phaser 2 (low resonance) or the Maestro Phaser worked wonders on the Prophet 6.  Delays were Ok on the P6 but I always used external reverb.

Yeah, the delays are usable; but all in all, i didn't buy the rev2 for the effects section.

I could be critical, but this synth more than exceeds my expectations. It's the synthesizer i've always wanted; glad that it finally exists.

Thanks DSI!

The Prophet 08 is what began my lusting for a full-featured fixed knob to parameter synth; though, it's been a long time since i've had physical contact with one (2015). Alas, i don't have adequate experience with it beyond short-bursts of getting to play with it before i even realized its possibilities.

Can't imagine you'd be disappointed with it; it has ended all GAS for a prophet 08

I had the Rack version, so keybed and such and I can't comment on. The sound is almost the same (I'm sure it is more similar than I think, but my ears want me to like the Rev2 more). What I can comment on is the improved layout. Setting up mods and choosing waveforms for oscillators is so much nicer. I didn't anticipate that being such a huge change for me between the two, but it is with a doubt my favorite thing going between the two.

Or, just change your order to an eight-voice and pay the early-adopter penalty later (for the upgrade)....

Just got mine in and I'm having a few issues. First, the screen is staticy white upon start up. Something a bit more serious is that there's a lot of static noise at all times. I figure this has to do with it being an analog synth, although I don't remember it being that bad with the Moog I used to own... The real issue is that if you turn up the volume (I'm using in ear monitors), you can hear constant frequency hum and also filters/5envelope type effects oscillating loudly too without anything being played. I thought maybe it was a calibration issue, so I tried recalibrating it and it froze on the second voice.

When i turn mine on, for the first second or two it's a white staticy screen, but then it goes normal and says Rev2 16-voice.

In terms of noise, i haven't had that issue on studio monitors or headphones; when it's not playing, it's dead quiet.

Also while i'm making patches or playing factory patches, haven't noticed any consistent hum or static. There is a possibility your cables have an issue or there is a grounding issue with your electrical setup. Check your Cables/Amp/Whatever with other gear carefully, preferably with a fuzz or overdrive pedal in the mix to amplify any noise on a quiet signal. I find that to be useful for a quick diagnosis for noise issues that are cable/electrical related.

Definitely suggest making demos and contacting support. Please tell us here how it turns out! Thanks.

I would be particularly interested in a comparison of the same program(s) loaded into the Rev2 and a Tetra. Any Rev2 owners with a Tetra to A/B?

I have a Tetra, a module '08, and, as of yesterday, the Rev2, but unfortunately, I wasn't able to compare them last night. Unfortunately, the Rev2 doesn't seem to be able to accept patches dumped directly from a '08. That was disappointing, because it is so easy to dump patches between Tetras and '08's. I tried it with the '08 anyway... with no luck. Perhaps I'll try it with the Tetra. This means that to get my Tetra and '08 patches into the Rev2, I need to hook up a computer and use a software application. Since the last time I did this sort of thing, I have switched from PC's to Mac, and so I will have to download SysEx Librarian and figure out how to work it. To me, that's sort of a pain, and unfortunately, I won't get to that until the weekend. But, I'm exceedingly happy to be able to eventually get my '08 sounds into the Rev2, and so I'm not complaining.

One of my first happy impressions with the Rev2 is that the keybed is much better. The '08 has a cheaper, noisy keybed, and mine had tiny, sharp shards of plastic (left from the manufacturing process) on the edges of some of the keys, which I eventually cleaned off with a fine file. In contrast, the Rev2 is much quieter and has more of a quality feel.

Other quick impressions: the strings and basses are much better; this isn't surprising with the basses given the sub oscillators. Some great pads. There are also some very good analog choir patches, which as we know aren't the easiest patches to develop. I love that there are so many more banks of sounds; I always felt a struggle when deleting patches to make room for new ones on the '08. (Sorry to hear of Devourer's issues with static; I didn't have any issues like that.)

My biggest frustration last night was trying to get a volume pedal to work. I tried different polarity pedals, including the one that I use with the '08. With the '08, setting pedal to volume is a Global function, but this doesn't seem to be the case with the Rev2. No doubt, some musicians will prefer to set up the volume pedal functions independently for each patch- some for volume and some to control filter cutoff or something else. But to me, making the default for volume makes obvious sense. I didn't find this the case for any patches, nor could I get the expression pedal to work for volume. I went to the modulation matrix to route the pedal to control volume. The closest that I got was that if I set the amount to -128, it worked the opposite way: if the pedal was rocked back, it would be full on and then it would get quieter as I moved the pedal forward. But when I changed the amount to 128 (or anything else) it did not control volume effectively. If anyone has the expression working to control volume, please give me the steps you used.

Very interested in what you discover in your comparison as well as the process to load programs. I'm surprised it's not more straight forward like previous models in the family. Is there a setting in the Rev2 to pick the format to be received (Mopho, Tetra, P08, etc.)?

Unfortunately, the Rev2 doesn't seem to be able to accept patches dumped directly from a '08.

Well, it was said in the product introduction video that patches can be dumped from Prophet '08 to Rev2. So, (1) ask DSI if its actually working with current OS, (2) make sure globals are set right so that Rev2 can receive the patches, (3) make sure to dump in Prophet '08 format (in case there is an option for that), (4) make sure the MIDI cable is working correctly and (5) make sure MIDI cable is connected to the right ports (Prophet '08: MIDI Out, Rev2: MIDI In).

The directions for importing are on page 65, and they don't say anything about dumping... only about using SysEx files. I did see a step that said:

"Use the parameter knob to select midi sysex cable, then use the value knob to choose either usb or midi, depending on which port you are using to connect to your computer."

I didn't check that, but then again, that is under the steps of importing SysEx. Still, I'm going to try that, as well as try with a Tetra, when I get a chance. But I'm at work and then I'm going to NY tonight (to see Tim Minchin yeah!)

Oh man! So that is the problem. MIDI cables are one way connections. So what you have to do at the Prophet '08 is to instruct it to send the patches so that the Rev2 can receive them!

Have a great concert! ;) . o O ( and coffee download )

You can absolutely dump programs from the Prophet '08 directly to the Rev2 using a MIDI cable. You do not have to specify a certain format.

You do need to have both machines configured properly: MIDI SysEx is ON in the Prophet '08, the Rev2 MIDI SysEx is set to MIDI (not USB), the MIDI channels on both machines match, and you connect the MIDI cable to the Prophet '08 MIDI Out to Rev2 MIDI In. Dump a single program, an entire bank, or all banks. The Rev2 will accept the transfer.

MIDI channels only have to match or rather be compatible when playing notes or changing parameters on the Prophet '08. The MIDI sysex messages do not contain channel numbers and hence this setting is not relevant for transferring programs between the instruments. Oh and who says the NRPN message numbers are the same between the instruments?

The same, it seems, as when you dump the programs of one Prophet '08 into another Prophet '08.

Exactly! While the program formats are different because of the new features the Rev2 OS knows how to transforms Prophet '08 programs into its own format.

I think the root cause of the problem is that the process is only partially described in the manual as the user have to work out the rest by himself/herself.

That's excellent news! Hopefully I will have success this evening. I've done dumps countless times between the '08, the module, and the Tetra. But I did not change anything on the Rev2, and so it is probably set to USB.

Success! I checked the Rev2, and all the settings were correct. So instead of trying directly again with the '08, I first dumped the banks into the Tetra... and then dumped them from the Tetra into the Rev2. That worked immediately with no issues. So, I don't know what wrong before... and I'm not curious enough to try it again from the '08.

As advertised, I think the Prophet '08 patches sound identical in Rev2. Well done DSI.

Thanks for the report! I'm curious how Tetra programs would sound in the Rev2. But maybe it's a moot point.
