Title: Wishlng
Post by: MasterVe on January 13, 2017, 06:26:09 AM
I got ob6 for Christmas and I love love it. But I just wish it had 1 feature
Multi tracking. If the ob6 had two separate tracks I would be happy.
It just kills my work flow when I
Need to record each track separate
Into Daw then I can tweek the sound

Can anyone give me advice on how they record separate tracks with ob6.

Not sure if I understand your question. The OB-6 is a stereo synth, you can record left and right independently and separately

Just wish it was like the pro 2
Where you can play two different
Instruments
On the pro2 and p 12 you can
Play a lead on one track
And a bass on another track that's it.

You mean splits and layers. Yeah the OB6 isn't set up for that. It would have been nice since the Oberheim OBXa had this possibility but the OB6 is pretty much just a Prophet 6 but with SEM interiors so one patch at a time. If you wanted two different patches at once you can look into the Oberheim Two Voice Pro. It's expensive and only duophonic but it sounds killer.

Yeah that's what I was trying to say
Split layer.
now if I record into a daw I can't tweak the sound or edit it with the ob-6 but that's cool I'll just track 1 sound at a time

Will see after namm

You know I was contemplating getting another Prophet 6 so I could get a dual action performance like the double keyboard Prophet 10...but like you said...we'll see what Namm brings.

FYI, just picked up a Korg Monologue, seems to compliment the OB6 quite nicely. At $299 is worth the try.

Yeah splits and layers aren't typically the part of the design intent for Dave Smith synths. His entire product line has always consisted of powerful platforms for sound design. More focused on sonic quality per patch. Check out Dave's Rev 2 though. I think it is setup to do splits and layers. Otherwise, contrast DSI with Roland gear from the last couple decades. Splits and layers are a common feature. I like my Roland gear. But generally Roland is more reliant on splits, layers, and effects for creating great sounds. My OB-6 should arrive next week.  :D I can't wait to dive in!

The Prophet 12, Prophet 08, Poly Evolver Keyboard and the REV 2 all have splits and layers capabilities.

Okay you're right, what I said isn't accurate. I'm apparently not as familiar with DSI gear as I thought. I didn't realize how many DSI's will do splits and layers. Foot in mouth problem. :-X  I do have a Prophet 12 and the splits and layers are very useful. Thought it was in the minority.

I would actually like to see more than one split point on the next DSI synth. Instead of just one patch on the lower end and one patch on the higher end. Why not four zones? It's not like Dave hasn't done a Multitimbral synth before (with the Sequential Multi-Trak) and that was in the 80s, it's 2017 now...that's probably why I was so disappointed with the REV 2.
