Title: Rev2 Desktop upgradable ?
Post by: musicmaker on August 31, 2017, 11:13:42 PM
Is the 8 voice upgradeable to 16 voices ? Information on the web does not mention it.

From https://www.davesmithinstruments.com/product/prophet-rev2-desktop:

Quote
An 8-voice version of the desktop module is also available, which, like the Prophet Rev2 keyboard, can later be expanded to 16-voices with the Expander Kit if desired.

Thinking about a 8 voice and at some point upgrade.

How is the upgrade installed. On the desktop it seems easy, pulling open the top cover.

But for the desktop, is this easy ? And how about a main board replacement on the desktop if there is bad luck ?

Does that need to pull all the knobs off etc.. ?

Could not find much on the DSI website how this is done.

I doubt you'd need to pull any knobs off to get access inside, it would be a bad way to construct the thing in the first place. The top should probably lift off (with the control panel fitted on the reverse) allowing access to the mainboard/voice board expansion. After All they've made it purposely upgradable so wouldn't make it fiddly.

For both the keyboard and the desktop it is an easy procedure involving a screwdriver. You don't have to remove the knobs for either one, it's just a matter of opening the case and pressing the voice expansion into its sockets and securing it with a couple screws.
