Title: Sub Osc can’t tell if I ever hear it or not????!!
Post by: S Y Z Y G Y X on April 07, 2018, 04:19:34 PM
I haven’t really thought about this until just now as I was thinking about the Rev2 and Bass, but I cannot for the life of me, tell if the Sub Oscillator on my Rev2 does anything!  A sub Oscillator should not just blend in a frequency below the hearing range, you should actually be able to hear the tone change of mixing in another Oscillator as on my Moog Subsequent 37, you can blatantly hear the Sub Osc being added in 1 octave below Osc 1.

Does anyone else notice this?  Is there a menu that I have to dive into to turn on or raise the volume of the Sub Osc??   I mean if this is the case and there is no fix for the volume of the Sub Osc, then why even put a Sub Osc on this synthesizer?  Really this has been boggling my mind all day, can anyone please shine down some insight, really I would think this would be one of the most important things to address in the next software update??

Real curious what you guys think about this.

If you can't hear your sub oscillator either your synth isn't working properly or your ears aren't :)

it's not perhaps as loud as I'd like it to go, but is easily audible.

If you genuine cannot here yours, contact Dave Smith support as it should be quite clearly audible.

Good luck. :)

It's there but on mine it's nowhere near as noticeable as it is on my Pro2.

I tend to agree that it doesn’t really have the ability to get loud enough for some circumstances.

Definitely there in mine, but quiet compared to my other synths, including the P12.

Initialize a sound. Make sure Osc 2 is off, then turn the Osc Mix to Osc 2 completely. Now turn up the Sub Osc. You should now hear the Sub all by itself. If you don't hear anything then you have a hardware problem.

I have found that my sub oscillator only works properly if the two oscillators aren't set on sync mode :)

For me SubOsc works independent of sync mode and it's very audible even at low volumes.
