Title: Whatever happened to Razmo?
Post by: S Y Z Y G Y X on May 05, 2020, 06:31:50 PM
He’s been off the grid since Corona...does anyone know if he’s ok?

I know it’s probably the wrong place for this post but the last time he posted was in this Pro 3 forum a few months ago.

I think I remember him saying that he had other health issues and was needing to go into hospital.
Hope he is OK :)

Yes, he described his health issue, but he was confident he'd recover.

The Waldorf forums says Razmo last logged in to there 6 weeks ago. I’m now trying to remember what other synths he has.

This Forum here says he was last online on April 19th. That's "only" three weeks... but still a long time for him.

I hope he is doing well...

From Razmo's "Rant" thread of February 10, 2020, reply #1083:

Just to let you know if you wonder why I do not rant so much these days, I am running in and out of hospitals for examinations, scans and bloodsamples. I was diagnosed with rectal cancer on 25th of october last year, and my life has been turned upside down since then.

I just finished 28 rounds of chemotherapy and radiation therapy, and am currently waiting for more blood testing, scans and examinations before surgery early April.

In general I have been lucky... despite an 8cm tumor up there, my immunesystem has kept any metastases from forming anywhere else, and it also took me thru low dose chemo without it even being visible in my bloodsamples..they joked about me having placebo tablets.

Anyone normal in my situation survive 70% of the time they say, and factors personally for me raise that barrier... I am young, do not drink or smoke and my immunesystem is extrodinary... so I am not afraid I will not win this battle, but it will not be without a few scars, and I am sick and tired of not being able to sit in the studio for more than 20min at a time.

The surgery will most likely result in removal of the rectum, and the colon sewn on directly, resulting in an 8week stomia...but I will survive that too.

So if you wonder why I may be a bit quiet from time to time, you now know why

Damn cancer. This is definitely too soon.

Thanks for being a sometimes belligerent, yet always helpful music tech nerd and an exquisite sound designer, who contributed to the discussions on here since the days of the old DSI forum. You and your gear rants will be missed.

+1 from me. I was thinking of a way to word it and you’ve done so perfectly in my opinion :)

That's sad.  I was wondering.

Well summarized, Paul.

He was definitely a character, and one of the most active voices around here.   Hope he's in a better place now, with the synth rig of his dreams.

This is so sad.  I'll miss hearing him describe his ever changing setup to to reach perfection.  God Bless Razmo.

R.I.P. to an absolute rock in the Sequential community. I loved that he was always such a good sport about us teasing him about him "Finalizing" his setup. He was a great dude. Sad to hear of him passing so soon.

Shocking.  He certainly was optimistic to the end.  He was the bug specialist around here and the loss of his knowledge will be felt.  May you rest in peace, Razmo.

... the loss of his knowledge will be felt.

That's actually what led me into "stalking" what happened to him. I had some nice chats per mail outside this forum over the last month or even years. The last ones unanswered until today. Something must have happened. He never forgot to answer. This week I had a little problem and thought "you know, who would know the solution... you finally have to find out what happened to him".

By googling his real name I found the article above. I was not sure at first, because I think his name is very common in Denmark, but in combination with the nickname and the picture beside the text... The picture seems to be pretty old, but I still remember some old profil pictures of him in this forum and so I decided it had to be him. And I wanted you all to know... (or perhaps I hoped that someone would say "jok3r you're an idiot... that's not our Razmo")

I never thought that I could feel so sad for someone that I never met in real life... but yeah... his loss will be felt.

Razmo was a member of the old DSI/Prophet forum.  Back then, he was quiet and humble.  I actually PM-ed him several times specifically to encourage him to be less shy and more vocal.  Well, at some point thereafter, he became VERY vocal!   ;D  He made exposing the Poly Evolver bugs something of a personal cause.  From that point on, he quickly became recognized as the chief bug authority around here.  The two of us had many arguments on the two forums, but they were due to our mutual passion for music and synthesizers.

No hard feelings here at all, Razmo.  You were probably right most of the time.  You knew much more than ever did.

By the way, thanks for passing on the sad news to us, Jok3r.

This is so sad 😞 I know he was ready for his Pro 3.  I hope he’s surrounded by his dream machines now.

Rest In Peace dear Razmo

Thanks for sharing! That must have been a while before I turned up in the old DSI/Prophet forum around the beginning of 2013. I still remember his avatar from back then: Gollum holding a Poly Evolver Rack.

After reading through his whole gear rant thread, I'm pretty sure not even the synth angels in heaven can offer the right setup for Razmo.  :D

Is there any higher instance? If so, let's hope he went straight there...

Terribly sad news. I appreciated his exacting nature and generosity with his time, two traits which combined to make him irreplaceable when I was developing wav2evolver. And following his whiplash wholesale gear swap-outs usually straddled the fine edge between exhilarating and exasperating, while being always entertaining. It's a great loss.

Haha... that's quite an admission!  ;)

I still remember his avatar from back then: Gollum holding a Poly Evolver Rack.

I have always associated him with that avatar.  It really suited him.  For all of his complaints through the years, he really loved his synthesizers... his "precious"... and he had Gollum-level lust for the ones he didn't have.  I think he explored The Entire Middle Earth of Synthesizers to try and quench his GAS.

Besides his animated rants and sometimes harsh criticisms, I will remember him as a really good sound designer with an ear for nuances and subtleties -- and a helpful member of the DSI/SEQ community who shared a lot of cool tips and tricks through the years.

Raising a pint to you, Razmo!

So sad to hear the news of Razmataz... a very knowledgeable and generous soul with his time.
He is already greatly missed.
Rest well, my friend.

I had feared the worst after his long silence, especially after he told us about his medical condition. I only had a few interactions with him but read many of his posts and learned plenty along the way.  It’s very sad news and a real loss to this community.

Oh my, this is very sad news.  My condolences go out to his family and friends.
I finally bought a Peak after being reading Razmo gush about how wonderful it is a year ago.  I will miss reading his adventures in synthesis, they were always a great inspiration.
RIP.

It is very sad news. I have a great deal of respect for people who share their passion for the things they love and Razmo certainly did that. Creating discussion and exploring the depths of what we can do has pushed all of us to do better, to learn, and for me to stay accountable to you all. His energy and passion will be missed

Saddened and surprised by the news.  I hadn't visited these forums in awhile and had no idea.  Razmo certainly contributed a lot here.  He will be missed.

RIP Razmo
Nice to see a thread for him. I had some good interactions with him on some forum about reverb effects which really opened my eyes, and I even had to admit I was wrong.
I don't know how DSI are going to survive without his Bug sniffing talents. Any Rev2 owner out there has a lot to thank him for.

Oh my. This is not at all what I expected to read today. I've had only very few (but very positive) interactions with Razmo, back when I was deciphering rev2 sysex messages. He struck me as an authority, someone who knew in-depth what he was talking about. May he rest in peace.

I’m saddened to hear of this. Razmo was a character, and had integrity. I enjoyed the spirited discussions between him and The Analog Organist. He seemed to coax the sensitive side of synthesis. Thank you, Razmo.
