About a year ago, I was poking around YouTube and stumbled across a very strange type of video. Strange, but it immediately appealed to the inner synthesist who is utterly captivated by sound - natural and otherwise. Some of this material is called "ASMR," while other material is meant to help with sleeplessness. Anyway, I no longer have use for it, but after spending so much time gathering it up, I thought I'd leave the links here for future reference. I think some of you will find it fascinating.

A while back I got into outdoor photography quite a bit. The thing I learned was that you start noticing scenes all around you that previously went unnoticed. I've always like nature sounds, but similarly, now I'm even more inclined to take note of the subtle pleasures.
Sacred synthesis. I'll probably spot check thru most of these, though in my experience some of this can get old after a while. Like working in a new-age gift shop ;). Not sure I understand your comment that you have no use for any of it. You mean simply done with it, or you mean like for sound inspiration?

I meant that I found it interesting at first, subscribed to the whole lot of them, but then quickly found it all redundant. I love nineteenth-century British and American literature, and in my search for documentaries on it, I stumbled across these channels. But you can look at a cozy Victorian study with a crackling fire for only so long! Many of these videos are 3-8 hours long and are meant to help people sleep. So, it was intriguing for a bit, but I have no further interest in the genre. Yet it was unique, and because I had done an extensive search for the better channels of this sort, I thought I might leave the collection here, rather than throw away the fruits of my efforts. And I thought it did somewhat fit in with the general fascination with ambient sounds and effects that synthesists have.

Hmm. I'll just leave this here

Ha, That's great chrsn. ;D What an iconic sound.
Thanks for clarifying sacred synthesis. I've also noticed that some of the relaxation tracks I come across on youtube are looped like after only 10 minutes or so, yet they are hours long.

Ha!
My mother-in-law has trouble sleeping sometimes - and is a Star Trek fan. I think this might be just what she needs!

Yeah, I figured out as much by watching the clouds. The patterns repeated after only fifteen seconds or so. But I have to say that some of those videos were absolutely fascinating in their scenery. Not the darker morbid stuff, but the ancient villages and vast landscapes really captivated me. And some of the ambient sounds were perfect for synthesists with insomnia. They're certainly more interesting than a white noise app!
