Another good work around is to just feed an lfo from something else into the pedal/cv input.

Yes, the external LFO application is a good work around for a Global LFO. I've done this with an MS-20 and with the LFO and Carrier Outs on the Moog MF102, which in addition to being a great ring mod is a very useful dual LFO. I found the additional LFO/modulation source not only solves this problem but adds another element of sonic color to the palette.
